*ouch!* I said in my head.

Without moving my head I looked to see what was hurting my feet.

It was Riley. She apparently fell...on my feet. She looked at me frightened to see if I had woken up. Which I had but I wanted to scare her. She started to tiptoe over to... my mom's room?!

She looked back at me and then started to walk regularly. She then closed the door softly. To soft because the door didn't close all the way.

After a couple of minutes of lying there waiting for her to come out to scare her I got bored. It must have been ten minutes ago when she went in there.

I got up and, carefully avoiding the spots that creek on the floor, peeked through the crack in the door Riley had left.

She was reading a book. She looked surprised.

That's weird. She turned the book back to the beginning. I don't know why but it was fun to watch her facial expressions as she read. So I just stood there quietly and watched.

It's a big book. It doesn't have anything on the black cover except for one white word written in cursive.

I was never good at cursive and to make matters worse she was a good distance away so I couldn't make out the word. I was almost certain that the first letter was "J" though.

Hey, is that my journal?! It couldn't be the dresser is closed.

Wait. No it isn't! It's wide open!

Riley was starting to tear up as she read. And she was on the first page.

Ugh! She's reading the sappy first entry that I wrote when I was in 1st grade.

I thought I could trust Riley and here she is reading my diary. I'm making to much a big of a deal out of this. I should just...

She is flipping through the pages. She might be trying to find my latest entry! I sure as heck don't wanna be around when she does.

If she does, I mean it's a pretty big book.

I don't want to take any chances. So I quietly walked over to the door an went outside.

The night sky was so beautiful. There were stars everywhere, a full moon, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

I just walked around observing everything I hadn't even bothered to see the beauty in before. New York is actually very pretty at night.

As I was walking I decided to go to the park. Not just any park, the park where I met Riley.

When I got there I sat on the swings. I remembered that day so clearly.

~flashback~

It was a Tuesday. A cloudy Tuesday. The weather forecast said it would rain so I went to the park to see it start. I used to do that often and still do. I saw a girl all alone swinging. But she looked happy. Even when she was alone. I was rarely ever happy then.

I watched her for a minute and the swing started to slow down.

"Daddy, Mommy, push me again!!" She had said while giggling.

I watched to see a young couple holding hands walk up to her. The man started to push her. She started to scream when she got high.

The man stooped the swing and swept her up in his arms. "Hey, Riley, you never need to be scared when I'm around. I'll protect you from all harm," he had said while she hugged him.

I noticed I was smiling. I guess I was staring because when he let her down she came over to me.

"Your all alone. Why is that?" She asked.
"I dont know you, so I can't tell you," I answered.
"Well then, I'm Riley Matthews. That's my mommy and daddy," she said pointing to the couple. "I'm gonna have a brother or sister soon. Where are your mommy and daddy?"
