Nightmare

The rest of the day was spent training. Hundreds of drills over and over, justsu control, and hand to hand combat took a huge toll on your body. Although you are one of the best ninjas in the village, you had never trained like this before.

Trying to relieve your body of pain, you soaked in the bathtub. A nice scent of spearmint and eucalyptus flowed throughout the bathroom, creating a relaxing environment. You sink deeper and deeper into the warm water as you remember the little things you learned about your new Captain.

Itachi Uchiha was Sasuke's older brother and the next leader of the Uchiha clan. His skill levels are off the charts, easily ranking above any Hokage. He was the highest ranking captain in the Special Forces. You never met him before now because he liked to remain in the shadows, not wanting attention brought to himself.

You thought his pet crows were creepy too. You debated on asking him if it was his crow that had been watching you, but you decided not to just in case you sounded crazy.

Aside from his capabilities and ranking, you found him extremely attractive. His long black hair flowed beautifully in the wind. The lines under his eyes were attractive, making him look extra serious and a bit older, despite him only being in his early twenties. The way he spoke and the way his eyes watched you all day had captivated you even more.

You've had plenty of crushes in the past, but you never dated any of them. Mostly because they were also Konoha shinobi and you had to go on missions with them, so in the chance where you got together and broke up and still had to continue missions together, it would make the workplace pretty awkward.

Well, I guess this is it you say to yourself, as you reluctantly decide to squash your blooming crush on Itachi. He was your superior, your new Captain. Although it wasn't against the rules, dating a superior was usually avoided by everyone, especially women. The last thing you wanted is for someone to discredit all of your hard work by saying that you slept your way to the top, which of course was not true.

You crawl into bed, pulling the sheets up to your chin. After one last mental image if your handsome Captain, you relaxed into a deep sleep.

The bright lights in your eyes left you disoriented. You panicked, unable to see your surroundings. You started to run, unsure of where you were running too.

In the distance, you saw a small flame. It looked like a campfire, but no one was around it. You kept running towards the fire as your surroundings got darker. Finally, you could make out shapes around you.

The campfire was in a middle of a clearing, surrounded by trees. You looked up and saw the night sky, the stars glistened against the dark background. You could almost hear a small trickle of a stream nearby.

Looking around, you couldn't find any evidence of the person who created the fire. Strange. "Hello? Is anyone out there?" you yell, hoping to find someone and ask them where you are. As if to respond to your question, a bird flew in front of you and landed on a branch, inches from your face.

It let out a soft caw, seeming to invite you in. You slowly move toward the bird, keeping your guard up in case it attacks. The closer you get, the brighter the crow's eyes become. What were both originally 2 black beady eyes, are now shining red, displaying a Mangekyou Sharingan design. You reached up to touch the bird, feeling a sense of calm and familiarity to it.

The crow let out a nasty caw, changing the woods around you. Now you're in the middle of a battelfield, watching shinobi die at an alarming rate. You heard their screams, their cries. One in particular took the breath right out of your lungs.

"We aren't going to make it out of here alive! You need to retreat, you need to stay alive for y/n!" The voice came from your father. He pushed your mother back, attempting to shield her from the oncoming attacks. "I can't leave you! Our daughter needs both of us!" your mother screamed back, cheeks drenched from tears.

A black figure crossed the battlefield, attacking everyone who crossed their path. Your parents readied themselves for the inevitable attack, watching the figure get closer and closer. They both launch attacks, screaming as they use their remaining chakra to defend the village. The black figure brushed off their attacks with ease.

Without any warning, you watched as the black figure murdered your parents, striking them both in the heart. "Mom! Dad!" you scream out, but nobody hears you. You run in their direction, but their bodies dissolve into thin air.

You notice the black figure watching you, now much closer to you. Pain and anger raged in your heart. Grabbing a kunai off the ground, you lunge to attack the figure that killed your parents. The figure made no attempt to move or retaliate. All it did was form an all white smile against it's black emptiness, looking like the cheshire cat.

You let out a terrifying scream as you sit up in bed, drenched in sweat. It took a minute for you to recognize your surroundings. After a few deep breaths, you gulped down the glass of water that stood on the table next to your bed.

What was that? You've never had a nightmare like this. It almost felt real, too real. Was this just a stress induced nightmare, or are they memories? If they're memories, then whose?

"Remember, y/n. Save him, y/n." the voice replays in your mind. Your brain tries to think of every possibility of any connection between what's been happening to you lately and the nightmare you just experienced. It felt like you dove down a never ending hole, searching for answers to questions you don't even know yourself.

An hour had passed since you woke up abruptly, taking away from your precious sleep. You only had a few hours of sleep left before you were scheduled to wake up and meet Itachi for more training.

Scared of falling back into another nightmare, you force your mind to think of all your friends. You see them smiling and laughing. Different memories of you all flashed before you, reminiscing your days in the academy, the chunin exams, and all the missions you completed together over the years. After successfully distracting your brain, you fall back to sleep.

Despite being a top shinobi, you failed to recognize the dark silhouette of a man standing on the balcony attached to your bedroom, watching you as dreams clouded your brain, leaving you vulnerable.
