Flowers on the Balcony

It's been a month into your training and Itachi has noticed your change in behavior. You grow more and more exhausted by the day. The dark bags under your eyes tell the truth when you lie and say you're sleeping okay.

Itachi also felt that something was weighing down your heart. In the past month, he felt like he had gotten to know you pretty well. He could read people very well, especially those he takes an interest in. Never once did he ask you what was wrong, and it killed him to not ask.

There were still a few hours of training left, but Itachi thought you'd had enough. If neither of you were going to talk about what was wrong with you, he wasn't about to let you continue with a clouded mind and overworked body.

"We can stop here for today. You've done a great job." Itachi gives you a reassuring smile.

"What? Seriously? I can keep going." you say, trying to reassure Itachi that you're fine.

But he isn't fooled. "You've come a long way and you deserve a break." He paused, as he noticed a presence in the forest. "Besides, I actually have something I need to do tonight."

"Well, alright." You didn't want to leave feeling defeated after not even completing your training for the day. There's been something on your mind for a while, and well, if you're going to leave defeated then you might as well make it as bad as it can get.

"Itachi, uh, would you like to get dinner sometime?" you asked with your eyes closed, too nervous to look at him.

Itachi was never one to be romantically involved. From a young age, he was raised to be a war machine, the ultimate ninja. Unfamiliar feelings swarmed in his gut, realizing his interest in you was deeper than he realized.

You opened your eyes to Itachi, red in the face, pretending to cough to hide his blush. "I-I think I'd like that." he replied.

You gave a nod as you ran off toward home, trying to prove to yourself that what just happened was real. Itachi watched as you ran out of sight, making sure you weren't within earshot.

"What do you want, vice captain?" Itachi teases, but also a little annoyed that his vice captain saw his interaction with you.

Shisui Uchiha walked out of the tree line. "What? I just can't come hang out with my best friend?"

"You came right now on purpose. I'm not dumb." Itachi rolls his eyes.

"It's not everyday your best friend tells you he caught a girl out of thin air, but then leaves out all the details. So tell me, was that her?" Shisui nudged Itachi in the ribs. He had been waiting for his best friend to finally find someone of interest. He wasn't about to let it go.

"Yeah that was her. I'm training her for my unit. She'd be a great asset to the squad, but her skills need a little polishing." Itachi shrugged, trying to talk about you as platonically as possible.

"Yeah but that ass doesn't. Like damn, you don't see that everyday. Well, maybe you do." Itachi threw shuriken at Shisui in response. Shisui dodged every one, laughing as he moved around. "You're gonna see it again soon, huh?" Shisui changes his voice to a higher pitch, imitating a girl.  "Oh Itachi, please have dinner with me. I have fallen for you and all I can think about is your big-" He's interrupted by Itachi activating his Mangekyou Sharingan, threatening to unleash his strongest jutsus on Shisui.

"Calm down man. I didn't think you'd take it that serious!" He backs off, knowing that Itachi was probably the only person in the entire village who could actually beat him.

Itachi lets out a sigh. "You know I'm not good with these things. I didn't grow up in a household where we talked about our feelings, or really even expressed them for that matter. But I feel different around her. I can feel the sadness and pain in her heart, but I also feel the warmth behind her smile when she accomplishes something." Itachi stares off into the evening sky, thinking about your smile.

"You probably have a crush on her. Keep learning more about her, and then you can decide for yourself if you really like her or not." Shisui wrapped one of his arms around Itachi's shoulders. "I'm gonna take a bet, and say she definitely has a crush on you, but she probably doesn't have any idea you have one on her too."

"You should do something nice for her, something that shows your gentle side and something that lets her know you're interested too!" Shisui says with excitment. "Like what?" Itachi asked nervously.

"Follow me! After I help you though, I want a pay raise. Playing matchmaker isn't exactly in my job description."

After you got done early with Itachi, you met Sakura for dinner. You met at a small diner, sitting at your favorite table in the window. Sakura listened as you went on and on about your new crush.

"I don't know what came over me Sakura. I asked him out to dinner! He's supposed to be my new Captain! Plus, what the hell was I going to do if he said no?" You shove a forkful of food into your mouth, eating away your stress.

"Y/n, you're worrying over nothing! If he wasn't interested in you, he wouldn't have agreed to dinner. You know, Sasuke and I could always join and make it less awkward." She said, trying to get you to relax.

"Yeah, no. I have a feeling that would make it more awkward." You both laugh.

"Okay true. But from what I know about Itachi, he isn't super bold with his feelings. He may like you, but he may not show it right away. Be patient, and if love grows, it grows." She smiles, finishing the dessert she ordered.

"You're right, I-" you stopped mid sentence as you looked out the window and saw Itachi and another man, laughing and talking as they walked through the street. Sakura noticed who you were staring at and gave you a reassuring smile.

"I think you two would be a great couple. Besides, a man only smiles that big if he's in love."

You blush a bright red, standing up to leave. "He, He's not in love, okay? That dude beside him probably just said some, some funny joke!" Sakura gives a loud laugh before following you out of the diner.

You waved goodbye to one another as you headed toward home. You weren't able to see Itachi in the street again, but that was alright. A smile crept on your face as you remembered Itachi agreeing to your date.

Once you got home, you headed straight for the shower. You rewarded your body for all its hard work by letting it soak longer than normal. Once the water started to get cold, then you decided to get out.

Wrapped in a towel, you looked for pajamas to wear in your bedroom. You were just about to take off the towel when you heard a little noise from somewhere around you. The sound came from your balcony. More specifically, a crow was banging it's beak against your balcony door.

You opened the door to see what it wanted, but it flew away. Puzzled, you looked around. Was Itachi nearby? Did he want to see you? After looking around for a bit longer, you assumed he wasn't there. The crow was long gone, completely out of sight. You turned to go back inside, but you noticed something near your feet.

A vase full of beautiful flowers was placed there, along with a note. Your stomach jumped with butterflies as you picked it up and smelled the lovely floral scents.

You placed the flowers on your dresser. Nobody had ever gotten you flowers before. It was such a sweet and simple gesture that made your jaw hurt from smiling so much. You find the note that came with it, and opened it. It read:

Dear Y/n,

For our date, meet me just outside the village gate. There's somewhere I want to take you.

Meet me at 6 pm tomorrow.

From, Itachi
