"I am going to kill you, Scott McCall. Seriously, going to strangle you with my bare hands. Next time you plan a spontaneous trip to Mexico to save Derek, take me the hell with you!" Carter whisper-screamed into the phone pressed against her ear as she walked through the school walls, keeping her voice low so nobody heard her. After many calls to the McCall male, all going straight to voicemail, she left a very angry voicemail for him to come back to.

Scott and the pack decided to head to Mexico, where they had traced Derek to after he disappeared months ago. Carter wanted to help, and made that clear to the five juniors. Apparently none of them wanted to listen. In the texts she received last night while she was asleep, when they left, Scott and Stiles's excuse was that someone needed to hold down the fort at home. She knew it was a lie, they just don't want her to go for her "safety." She loved that they worried for her, but Derek was family, and who they were going after was dangerous and was posing a risk to themselves. Carter wasn't happy about it when she woke up. By then they were long gone and there was no getting ahold of anyone.

But she still went to school with a bag swung over her shoulder and a huff in her chest.

Carter didn't have many friends her age. She had Mason, Garrett, Violet, and Hayden. But she didn't get to hang out with them all that often due to the fact that she's a snarling beast most of the time. But she still loved them with her whole heart. There was also Brett Talbot, who's been her friend for quite a few years thanks to a volunteer fundraiser at the public library that Carter signed up for to stay away from home. They only became really close when the young girl was turned into a wolf, him being a wolf since birth. But Brett went to a different school, so seeing him was almost impossible.

From Mason:
Come outside where the buses are, I wanna introduce you to someone

Carter let out another huff, not in the mood to meet anyone new. But she knew if she didn't, Violet and Garrett would hunt her down in the halls and drag her. So she slammed her locker and trudged her way outside to where the buses drop off.

It took another five minutes for her friends bus to pull up. By then, Carter was ready to leave school period. But she found her will to stay when her three friends came bounding out.

"I can totally help him in chemistry!" Garrett defended himself. Carter furrowed her eyebrows in confusion on who be was talking about. Violet and Mason were great at Chemistry. This must be the person Mason wanted to introduce her to.

She found out a second later when a blue eyed puppy looking boy turned the corner and stood next to Mason, looking a little nervous. He was cute, and his muscles were straining against his t-shirt. Carter caught herself before she could start drooling. Arm muscles were always her weakness. She wondered who he was, and why he was coming mid year all of a sudden.

"You would of failed chemistry last semester if it wasn't for Mason." Carter cut into their conversation, snorting unattractively. She mentally cringed at herself, becoming insecure in front of the new boy.

"Carter hey!" Violet unlatched herself from her boyfriend and wrapped her arms around the girl. Carter gently smiled and hugged back before hugging her blond friend and the grinning fool. Oh how she loved her friends.

"Carter, this is Liam. He's a transfer from Devenford." Mason motioned to the puppy like boy. Mason had talked about his friend from a different school many times, Carter just had terrible memory. But when you're a werewolf fighting a new evil everyday, you'd forget things too.

"Devenford? Really? Nice school. Friend of mine goes there." Carter smiled. "Nice to meet you, Liam."

"Likewise." He smiled a little in return. When Carter turned away towards Mason, who started going on about this hot senior, Liam took his chance to look the young girl up and down. He had to admit, she was quite attractive. Her wavy brown hair was well styled, shiny and full of life, and her eyes were a brilliant green that reminded him of the granny smith apples at a farmers market. She wasn't very tall, a few inches shorter than him and he was 5'6, but he liked that better than her being a foot under him. He felt himself starting to get heart eyes, so he turned to look at his feet, feeling insecure.

Unfortunately for the group, the bell rang a minute later. Carter wondered if she had any classes with Liam.

"What's your first class?" Carter glanced at Liam. He looked a little surprised and frantically glanced down towards the paper in his hands.

"Economics with Finstock." He answered, looking back up at the girl with a nervous smile.

"I have that too." She walked over and swung her arm over his shoulders, leading him in the direction of the classroom. "As does Mr. Hewitt."

"I'm coming!" Mason called, catching up. The three continued walking in the direction of Finstocks classroom which was a ways away from where they were.

"So, Mr. Dunbar..." Carter started. "What are your plans for this wonderful school?"

"Well I heard you all have a lacrosse team." Liam glanced at her, a confident smile finding his face as he talked about the sport.

"Ah we do. We suck all except for the team captain but if you can run fast Coach will let you on the team."

"You know the team captain?" Liam glanced at her in surprise. That suddenly made him nervous.

"She lives with the team captain." Mason corrected. Liam stared at him wide eyed before glancing at Carter, who gave him a sheepish smile.

"Before you ask he is not my brother. His mother is just my legal guardian until I'm 18." Carter turned the corner, waving at Hayden along the way. The girl waved back with a smile. Neither boy paid attention to the interaction.

"What happened to your parents?"

Carter smirked. "My dad was tore apart by a giant lizard."

Liam stopped walking, looking at the girl wide eyed. She looked completely serious. Carter loved doing this. She resisted the urge to laugh at the look on his face.

"Actually, he was murdered by Matt Daehler. And Carter seems to love to make jokes about her dads death." Mason looked at his friend weirdly.

"My father was a douchebag, Hewitt. I hated him with a passion and I have never been happier for him to be dead." Carter smiled sarcastically. "Now can we please go to class?"

"Come on." Mason motioned his still-stunned friend forward as Carter kept walking.

"On a better note, I'll put in a good word for you to Mr Team Captain." Carter smiled at her new friend. The three finally entered Coach's classroom. "Morning Coach."

"Morning Lahey." He nodded. The three went and sat down in some random seats together near the back.

"Did we have homework last night?" Carter leaned over towards her smart friend. She completely blew it off with her studying, and Coach was starting to lose his patience with her not turning in her homework.

"Already did it for you." He snatched the paper from his binder. "I knew you would need it since you were studying for the science test all last night."

"You are the bestest friend ever." Carter pressed a platonic kiss to her friends cheek and snatched the paper from his hands.

"You do her homework?" Liam eyed them oddly. "Do mine too." He was joking, by the teasing smile on his lips.

"I only do her homework when she's busy doing other school stuff and she forgets." Mason smiled at his friend. "Your grades have sucked this year."

"That might be due to the fact that one of my best friends died and my brother moved to France?"

Neither male spoke for a minute. Carter busted out into giggles.

"Get used to this, Liam. Humor is my way of coping with my trauma." Liam smiled awkwardly in response as the final bell rang and Coach started class.

"Is she always like this?"

"Joking about her past trauma and laughing when everyone becomes uncomfortable? Yeah."
