Practice ended quite quick after that. Stiles and Scott were distracted, it was clear. The two kept looking towards Liam, eyeing him in a weird way. Carter hoped it was just fear for their position on the team. She could handle a disappointment Scott for getting bumped down from captain.
"You did great!" Carter glided down the stairs towards her friend. "Coach is going to love you."
"You think?" He smiled hopefully.
"I know."
Liam left for the locker room with one last smile. Carter made the decision to wait outside for him, ready to go to their first class together. Mason would be here any moment.
In her moment of boredom, she decided to expand her hearing. Nothing like hearing some high school drama you weren't suppose to know.
"You want to explain what that was out there?"
Oh god. She wanted to hear something like Bella kissed Jacob instead of Edward and instead she got Stiles.
"What do you mean?" Carter sighed in disappointment. Only Stiles would think Liam was suspicious for playing good.
"That little display. Your little circus act."
"What Circus act?"
"You caught every shot."
"I was in goal."
"Yeah but nothing, not a single shot got past you."
"Yeah, I was the goalie. You guys played this game before?" He almost sounded amused.
"You're a freshman right?" Scott suddenly spoke.
"Yeah."
"But you weren't here last semester." Stiles pointed out.
"I transferred from Devenfort Prep." It didn't take a genius to know Liam was lying about that. Carter knew he got kicked out of Devenfort, but if he wanted to share that information, he would of. She wouldn't even let Brett tell her the reason he got kicked out because she respected him.
"You transferred?" Scott asked, clearly listening to his heartbeat.
"Yeah."
"No, you got kicked out, didn't you?"
Carter pushed herself away from the wall, ready to run inside the locker room, boys or not, to help her friend.
"Scott cut it out." She whispered, knowing he could clearly hear her.
"Alright, look. Kicked out or transferred, what do you guys care? I came here to play lacrosse. The team could used a few good players, right? That's what Car said."
"No, we don't need any more good players. Carter was wrong-And don't call her Car."
"Actually, we could sort of use a couple." Scott corrected as team captain. The team sucked.
"Okay, how'd you get this good? Have you always been this good? Or did it suddenly happen just once over night? Have you ever been out in the middle of the woods during the night of a full-"
"Stiles." Scott stopped his rant before he revealed too much.
"Look, I learned from my stepfather, alright? He made team captain when he was a sophomore, like you. And yeah...I guess i'm just that good. Now if you will excuse me I have a class to get to with Car."
Carter snorted, doing her best to cover it up. Liam was clearly trying to get underneath Stiles's skin with the nickname.
"STAY AWAY FROM HER-" Stiles called out as Liam left the locker room.
"Okay, your friends...total wack-jobs." Liam told the girl waiting outside the locker room.
"Yeah I know," She huffed, glancing over as the two left the locker room. "Give me a minute."
Leaving Liam behind, she strode over.
"I don't know what you two are doing, but Liam? Not a werewolf or a were-coyote or whatever the hell else there is. I talk to him daily, I think I would know. So please stop trying to run him away from me." Carter looked at the two pleadingly.
"Do you like him?" Scott smirked, teasing her.
"What? No." The answer was instant.
"Your heartbeat says otherwise." He smirked harder, finding this amusing. Carter's cheeks flushed as she listened to her own heart going a mile a minute.
"That means nothing. You two? Cut it out before I cut your throats out." Her threat was empty but it made her feel better putting it down.
Mason was standing next to Liam when Carter made her way back over.
"They won't bother you anymore." She smiled at Liam, putting her arms around the two males and leading them away. She felt the burning glare of Stiles and used one of her hands to flip him off.
Carter was in the middle of taking notes when her phone buzzed. Glancing around the room, she saw Finstock leaned over, helping a kid named Corey with finding the right page. Quickly taking out the device, her eyes widened.

The news upset her for the rest of class. She completely forgot about her notes, merely staring at the same word for the next 45 minutes until class ended.
What kind of supernatural creature used an axe to murder someone?
