The blazing sun beats down on Jordan, Finn, Zak, and Skye's necks as they travel to the Dark Forest, its immense heat radiating ahead of them.

"I'm guessing we're not far from the checkpoint?" Finn inquired.

Zak couldn't respond since he didn't know.

The only thing on his mind was Randy and Carla.

"We're probably a few hours away from the closest village," Skye replied.

Finn laughed.

"Wonderful, that makes things much better," he said.

The gang continued down the mountain for a few more kilometers until they came to a decrepit overpass.

It had a vast watery chasm beneath it that stretched all the way to the shores.

Finn set down his bag and grabbed what seemed to be a grappling launcher on his wrist.

"That'll be easy," Zak replied as he used his fire to rocket himself over the ridge.

Finn was astounded by his ability as he pushed himself towards him.

Jordan and Skye followed Zak's lead and used their flames to go to the other side of the ridge.

The sudden talent dropped Finn's jaw of both Jordan and Skye.

After that, they continued down the road.

They traveled down the steep road, eventually arriving in a lively village.

The residents of the town appeared to be having a good time as the day progressed.

"What a wonderful village, everyone seems so happy, so normal," Jordan commented.

Skye made a snide remark to him.

"When there's a battle on your doorstep, you sorta have to put on a brave face for the people you care about," she explained.

Jordan took a step closer.

"I never knew you cared, Skye; most of the time, you only berated individuals like them; what changed?" he wondered.

Skye looked for an explanation, but she just kept walking.

Jordan's face furrowed as he followed.

As he walked alongside Zak, Finn took in the sights of the village.

Finn seemed different; he was less conversational than he had been before they left the village.

A small youngster in a hood approached them while they were on the walk.

But there was something weird about this young man as he reached them.

Zak put his hand on the holder of his sword, ready to strike.

As they greeted the boy, they couldn't see his face.

Skye kneeled and approached the youngster, but he grabbed her rifle and fled into the forest.

"Hey! You little shit, come back here! "She yelled as she chased him down.
