Y/n awoke from her slumber, with sun light hitting her face and.. was that a book that just hit her in the head?

"No sleeping on the job cutie!" A woman giggled, reaching her hand out to pull the other up. Lisa was the type of person that you never knew what they were going to do or say next. Y/n was always on edge around her, although Lisa was kind, she could sure as he'll be scary when she wanted to be.

Y/n apologised and got to her feet, brushing the dust off her dress. Lisa in turn handed her a cup of lemon tea to wake her up. "Now i'm not going to ask why your asleep on my library floor. But as payment I'll need you to run some errands for me today princess." It was hard to tell if Lisa was angry, flirting or both. So y/n just sighed and stared at the list of jobs Lisa was waving in her face.

Her head was on fire with pain, probably from sleeping at such a weird angle, and she was in desperate need of a shower to wake her up, but there was no way Lisa would let that happen, not after all those jobs she needed her to do.

After finishing her tea y/n ran to the knights bathroom to wet her face and gather herself. Trying not to think about the other night with Diluc and definetly not the note that she woke up to. She did her best to comb the knots out her hair with her finger tips and then tied it into a braid.

'Don't let this man ruin your mood' she sighed and hurried off to meet Lisa and get the supplies she needed for the day.

"Nothing too big sweety, just a couple of errands. I need you to pick up books from these addresses and then drop off a shipment of leaflets to Charles at the tavern."

The tavern? Y/n felt sick to the stomach, she doubted, Diluc would be working there today but the thought of it made her want to cry. She decided to put off that task to the very end of the day and headed off to the town centre to find the first client Donna, which was probably even worse, the last time she met Donna she was moaning about her stealing Diluc.

"Excuse me Donna, I'm here from the favonius library about a book you borrowed from us a while ago, do you have it?" Y/n asked as sweetly as she could offering the scowling lady a smile.

"And why should I give it to you? You've already stolen everything from me!" The lady scoffed, folding her arms across her chest in frustration.

Well this wasn't exactly off to a good start. After what felt like hours of arguing between Donna and her, y/n finally got the book back, though the woman had torn out the pages in a fit of rage. Lisa wouldn't be happy about this.

After that she made her way across the city claiming payments and late returned books from numerous different customers. She also stopped for a chat with Sara who insisted on making her some lunch. Before she knew it it was 6pm and there was only one stop left on her list. The tavern.

The city hustle was quiet now, most of the noise coming now from within the taverns. Y/n looked at herself in the windows as she passed by. She looked tired, her eyes red, she noted that she might be coming down with a cold. All the emotions and stress of the last few months was catching up with her.

Though, she was pleased to see that despite sleeping on the library floor and wearing the same clothes from yesterday, she still looked okay. Which was something she tried to tell herself before heading into the tavern.

'He's not here, it's just going to be charles.' She told herself, held her breath, and used all her weight to push the door open.

And as if the gods were punishing her, there he was, the wine master himself. Staring at her as she stumbled through the door holding a crate of leaflets. He froze and placed the glass he was cleaning down on the bar.

"Y/n...you-"

"I'm just here to drop these leaflets off with Charles." She cut him off, trying her best to look strong. But truth was she was trembling with nerves and embarrassment , "Do you know where I can find him?"

He lowered his head, y/n thought he might have been embarrassed. Good. As he should be. She shook off her embarrassed and remind herself that he was the one with the emotional problems not her.

"He's off sick, I can take them for you." He gestured for her to place the crate down on the counter infront of him. There was a cut on his face that wasn't there last time she saw him, it looked very painful. He didn't deserve her worry but she couldn't control the slight twinge in her stomach at the thought of him in pain.

She dropped off the crate and turned to leave before Diluc stopped her, grabbing her wrist and pulling her to the counter.

"Do you want a drink?"

She thought for a moment, looking into his big red eyes. She could feel how guilty he was. His hands delicately catching on her fingertips as he let go of her wrist.

"I - I can't I have things I need to do." She frowned pulling her arm away. And left out the door. Leaving him in a trance. It wasn't often the master would be turned down, and he didn't want to get used to the feeling but he understood, after what he did to the poor girl.

Truth was Diluc regretted that letter as soon as he left that morning, and after a few minutes of pondering he ran back to the hotel to retrieve it, and would wake y/n up to have a civilised conversation about what this meant for them. But when he got back she was gone, and the note had been crumpled up and thrown against the wall. He knew what an dick he had been, and he knew what she must think of him. He had to make it right.

As y/n exited the Tavern, Diluc called for one of his waiters to take the position of bar tender for the night and followed her out the door.

She hadn't got far, she was leaning up againt the wall with her head in her hands.

Y/n took a long breath in an attempt to calm down her shaking body, she was so angry, she wanted to yell at the man, tell him that he can't go treating people like that. Unfortunately when she got angry, it was very hard to stop herself from crying.

She felt like screaming, but then a pair of warm hands wrapped around her wrists down from her face, pulling her away from her thoughts.

"Y/n... I'm sorry." He said searching her eyes for forgiveness.

"Well you should have thought about that before you slept with me and ran off like a coward!" She screamed in his face. The people around the tavern all turned to look in their direction and few gasps were heard from the small audience. Diluc didn't seem to care, his eyes remained rested on the girl infront of him.

"I didn't want to hurt you." He admitted and sunk his head down, the man paused for a moment, trying to find the right words. "I didn't want to make things more complicated than they were."

"More complicated? Things are already complicated with you, you're the most difficult person I've ever met! Walking around acting like you don't care about people, and I actually stared to believe maybe that was just pretend, that you do care. But no youre you're completely hartless!"

He didn't say anything but his posture shifted, he lifted his face up to meet her eyes. He looked angry, like she had struck a nerve.

After what felt like hours of waiting for a response, y/n gave up, and turned on her heals to leave, not knowing where she was going since she had lost her home.

"Where are you staying?" He sighed, y/n wasn't looking but she knew he had his arms folded.

"I'll find somewhere."

As she walked off, two firm hands gripped on her waist and spun her around, without any words she was lifted off the ground effortlessly and thrown gently over Dilucs shoulder, him holding her tightly in position with one hand on her lower back.

"Hey! Put me down!" She kicked against his chest and hammered her hands against his back. It didn't help that she was scared of heights.

"I'm taking you home. Stop kicking me."

"Well put me down then and I'll stop!"

He didn't reply just walked out of the city gates getting strange glances from the town folk.
