Chapter 17 - A wedding invitation

Winter had come and settled, snow covered hills watched over the winery which had been covered compleyley in ice crystals. The river had frozen over, and even the cryo slimes seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Y/n spent most of her time trying to convince Diluc to go ice skating with her, which he agreed to only if she beat him at a game of chess. Which after 3 weeks of trying, still hadn't happened.

Work for Diluc was limited, as the vines were covered up to help them survive the winter. Wine had been stocked up over the last few months and every so often he would help out at the tavern to relieve charles.

Y/n wasn't busy either, the library had been shut for refurbishments for a few days. So the two stayed together by the fire either reading, enjoying eachothers company, or playing chess.

It was a Tuesday afternoon when Diluc had finally convinced her to play chess again, after she had completely humiliated herself last time. He sat across from her, wearing some black loose fitting trousers, a simple black t-shirt and his hair was down to keep his neck warm. His face scrunched up as he watched the pieces on the board move.

He looked down to his girlfriend, who was wearing long socks and a sleeved dress, her nose slightly pink from the cold and her hair mirroring Diluc's. She was staring at the chess board thinking about her next move until her face lit up in a mischievous grin and she looked up at her partner.

"I've got you." She beamed, moving her castle over to check his King. He had already noticed how close she was to finally winning, but hadn't said anything because unlike her, he had a pretty good poker face.

He tried to play it cool, keeping a cold smirk on his face as he took his final move, hoping to throw her off, but she caught his bluff, then moved her bishop to place her opponent in check mate.

He laughed softly at her glee, she had jumped over the table knocking over the pieces and was now straddling Diluc in his lap, placing hot kisses all over the man's face.

"I did it! I got you!" She threw her arms over him and nestled her head into his neck, relishing in the newly found heat.  In turn he just stroked her hair and placed a gentle kiss upon her four head.

They must have stayed in that position for a while because when y/n finally lifted her head it was completely dark outside, and Diluc had drifted off to sleep underneath her.

She tried to climb off him without waking him up and made her way to the kitchen to make herself a hot drink, but before she could pour the water, somebody barged through the front door, sending the whole house into a horrible chill and waking Diluc from his slumber.

A cloacked Amber swung her bow down on the entrance desk and shook the snow off her boots, entering the winery with a huge smile dancing across her face. And her eyes lit up even more when she saw y/n.

"Y/N! Y/N! Y/N!" She bounced over, doing her best to not get snow everywhere and pulled y/n into a hug.

"Guess what!" She grinned, shaking the poor girls shoulders, then moving her left hand to wave it frantically in front of y/n's face.

Diluc at this point had sleepily made his way into the kitchen to continue the tea y/n was making, knowing full well Amber wouldn't stop speaking any time soon, and that y/n was too polite to interrupt.

"Woah Amber slow down! I can't see." She giggled, trying to stop the brunette from knocking over Diluc's vase. And to her surprise Amber actually did stop, and held her shaky hand out for y/n to see.

Amber's ring finger had been laced by a beautiful ring with a red and blue gem stone bringing each side together. "I'm getting married!" She screamed. Going back to being her usual explosive self.

Y/n didn't know what to say, mostly because she had just woken up but also because she was a little confused. Amber was younger than her by a few years but still old enough to make her own decisions. Still this seemed like a pretty big step, her and Eula have only been seeing eachother a few months now.

"Are you sure you want this?" She smiled, trying to seem as supportive as possible, even Diluc had stopped what he was doing to pay attention to the conversation.

Amber just nodded and brought y/n back into a hug. "I have never been this certain. It's in two days, will you come?"

I was going to write the wedding in this chapter but I'm so tired so maybe I'll write it tomorrow oops
