Though she and the others hid from me, Alcina still made sure I was cared for, as I constantly found what seemed to be fresh blood awaiting me in my room for breakfast, lunch, and supper, though where she was retrieving it from inside the castle, I wasn't really certain, but I assumed it was from the maidens she constantly brought in. I could barely force myself to swallow the blood, still not used to drinking something that came from a living human so I could survive, and I was beginning to get ravenous. I assume it was the universe trying to be ironic, considering what happened that horrible day, but I never thought it funny once. I also suppose I only have myself to blame, for having let my hunger burn and grow with every passing moment, but either way, what happened was likely unavoidable, and doomed to occur, whether I had eaten properly or not..
I had been strolling across the castle grounds when I heard the voices, though, because I was unable to see who they belonged to at the moment, I assumed they were somewhere further down the mountain, and wasn't too concerned. The voices soon made me pay attention, however, as they suddenly came closer, and I saw a few men coming towards the castle gates, weapons in their hands. My blood instantly began to boil, my distaste and hatred for men causing a foul taste in my mouth, and I instantly walked over to them to force them to leave, not noticing the familiar faces until it was too late, my breath catching in my throat, as those familiar smirks and eyes burned into what felt like my very soul.
One of them seemed to recognize me instantly, and laughed. "Oh, look, it's our little songbird! She must have crawled her way back home after singing for us!" Another joined in, and told me, "I bet you enjoyed it, too! Let us in to the castle, and we'll make you sing again!" The burning rage inside me turned white hot, and I began seeing red, the men who had violated me months before all standing not more than mere inches from me, only separated from me by the gates, which I glanced at, an idea forming in my brain. At that point, I wasn't thinking clearly, merely wanting the justice I so desperately craved, and wrenched open the gates, faking a sweet smile. "Be my guest. Come inside, and have your way with the castle and me.. You must all be half frozen."
They seemed to believe me, and poured in through the gates, seeming to flinch, as I slammed the gates shut behind them, and then, they glanced at me, waiting for me to take them inside the castle. I had other plans, however, the rage growing more and more, likely fueled by both anger and hunger, and before they could quite realize their mistake, I bared my fangs, and leapt upon them, tearing them limb from limb. I felt their hot blood bathe me, and relished in it, enjoying it immensely, and drank deeply from the continuous red that sprayed forth, my physical hunger satiated, but my hunger for revenge not yet satisfied.
Some of them tried to run, but I was too quick, and far more powerful than their human strength, and quickly devoured them, every inch of my body coated with blood. A few of them even fought back valiantly with their weapons, but they merely stung, drawing barely any blood from me, and I quickly took care of them, too, but made sure I saved every man who had violated me until the very last, wanting to savor the horror in their eyes, as their organs spilled out onto the ground, their limbs strewn about like morbid decorations. It was after I had killed the last man that I began calming down, and realized what I had done, glancing down at my shaking, blood covered hands. It was then that I realized that I was, indeed, a monster, and that some of the men I had slaughtered likely had been innocent, and a sinking feeling began in my stomach.
I suppose in my blood craze, I hadn't noticed her, but as I glanced at the castle, I saw Alcina watching me silently from the doorway, her expression unreadable, though sadness showed in her eyes, and I wondered just how much she had seen of what I had done. I wanted to say something to her, but the words stuck in my throat, nothing I could think of good enough to explain the macabre disaster strewn about her courtyard, without also telling her the horrendous things that preceded my transformation. As we stood there, staring at each other, I began feeling the anxiousness of seeing her fade away, replaced by anger, wondering why now, after so long, she chose to show herself, as if to mock my loneliness. I stormed towards her quickly, meaning to go back inside the castle, but she blocked the way, causing my blood to once again boil with fury. "I will only ask you once to move out of my way, Alcina, and if you stay where you are, I will fucking move you myself." I saw her eyes go wide with surprise, clearly never having expected me to speak to her that way, since I had always been so sweet and caring towards her, and she moved out of the way, allowing me to enter, then closed the doors behind us.
