"Absolutely not. Anyone else but him."

"You know that's not how it works." You return quietly.

"Why him? Of all the people you could have fallen for, you chose my idiot brother."

"He's not so bad once you get to know him."

She scoffs. "No, he's not bad, he's awful. I can only tolerate him as long as I can hold my breath for." Alcina then takes a seat in the armchair by the fireplace, placing the wine glass on the polished table beside it.

"So you don't approve?" You bow your head.

"Heavens no, I do not approve. I would never approve of the likes of him. I have one rule. Care to refresh both of our memories on what that rule is?"

"Stay away from your idiot brother," you reluctantly mumble.

"You always were a rule-breaker, I just hoped you wouldn't be foolish enough to disobey this one. Is it really so difficult to follow one simple rule, [Y/n]?"

"It's a stupid rule. I'm sorry, Al, but it is! Look, you're my best friend. I tell you everything. I trust you with my life, you're like my mom, sister and best friend all in one and I adore you. I know you're just looking out for me but I can't help who I fall for. I'm sorry it had to be Karl but I'm not going to apologise for wanting to be with him."

"He is insufferable."

"I know he is."

You watch her turn away to gaze at the fire and trudge over to stand before her. She merely casts a glance in your general direction. Even when you tilt your head, she doesn't speak.

So you climb up and make yourself comfortable on her lap, drawing a short sigh from her crimson lips. She places her hand on your lower back regardless, not wanting you to tip backwards since she knows how clumsy you can be.

"He looks out for me, you know?" You toy with the belt on your coat. "He makes me happy. It's not like he could mess up, not with you watching over us. We both know you'll kill him if he hurts me."

"Hm." Her brow arches.

"Please approve," you lightly nudge her shoulder with yours. "You matter most, I won't be with him if you don't support us."

"It's not you I don't support."

"Please, Al. I'll be able to drag him around the village to search for survivors too. Now you won't have to worry as much because I'll have him to protect me while I'm outdoors. If danger comes running at me he'll knock it on its ass." She chuckles softly. "No one has ever made me feel like this before."

"He treats you well?"

"He does," you smile. "And I know he pretty much despises everyone else, so it only makes me feel more special than I already do. I meant what I said. He isn't so bad once you get to know him. He's like a different person now."

"He's most likely showing off to impress you."

"It's working." She sends you a look that says 'not funny' but you smile nonetheless, trying everything in your power to cheer her up. "You can't deny me this. You never could say no to me."

"You pray on a person's weaknesses, it's cruel. Clever, but cruel."

"I know I am your biggest weakness. Besides the girls. Obviously your daughters are also a weakness too."

Her finger taps against where your spine sits beneath the many layers of clothing, an indication that she's thinking it over. You let her contemplate in peace, staring at her eyes that briefly narrow.

"For you, I am willing to..." she sighs heavily, shaking her head. "I suppose I would be willing to put our...differences aside, for your sake. But I am only agreeing to this as long as Heisenberg agrees to my terms. If he hurts you in any way, you tell me and I will slice him to ribbons."

"Thank you." You grin and hug her tightly. "I knew you wouldn't be able to resist for long."

"Don't push it." She replies lightly. "He is not to leave you unprotected. He is not to pressure you into anything you don't consent to either."

"Al!"

"Consent is vital, [Y/n]."

"This has gone too far." You hop off her lap and smooth your coat, flicking your hair from your eyes.

"[Y/n], this is important-"

"Yep, got it!" You call on your way to the door. "As much as I'm enjoying this, I have to go tell Karl the good news. Don't worry, you'll know most the details of our relationship. Not all of them though."

"Not all of them?" She turns to you with a frown, raising the glass and halting midway. Reading your face, she quickly nods. "Ah, yes, quite right, some things are better left unsaid."

"Agreed."
