Screams infiltrate the forest, arms flailing high above the dirt. Skin stained with kisses from patches of soil and glistening with sweat despite the bitter air that nips hungrily. It's nothing compared to the shivers that trickle down his spine.

"Any last words?"

"Please! I can give you money!"

A scoff follows. You fling the man into the air and catch him by his neck, pinning his back against the tree with a thump. Burnt orange leaves disperse and cascade from the force. He writhes and kicks against the bark, chipping segments off with the heels of his worn boots.

"Do I look like I'm interested in worthless coins?" He stammers when you lean in closer. "Humans. So pathetic."

The doors to the castle are blown open with a gust of wind rolling in, slamming shut behind as you strut up the steps and into the nearest room that, thankfully, isn't empty.

"Why must every human I terrorise insist on paying me?" You grumble and drop onto the sofa, thighs spread to make yourself comfortable.

"Gonna need a little more, my love." Her soft voice instantly melts your temper. The hand pressed to your forehead drops to the armrest, your head tipping back when your witch rubs your shoulders.

"It's always the same." You sigh and wave your hand. "I'm holding them upside down by their ankles, seconds away from ending their miserable lives, then it's a case of please don't kill me I have a family, I have money. Like I need money!"

"You know how predictable they are." Daniela kisses the top of your head. You gaze up at her with a face softer than a marshmallow, tucking fiery hair behind her ear. Still gorgeous upside down.

"Am I not terrifying?" Your brows scrunch.

"The most." She kisses the wrinkles from your forehead. "I have a surprise for you. I was going to wait but it looks like you could use it now." A smirk slowly creeps across your mouth, brows cocked. "Not that. Later perhaps, if you're good." She chuckles at the low growl. "Close your eyes."

"You know I hate surprises."

"You'll like this one."

You comply and let your eyelids fall, listening to the shuffling and creaking of an old wooden drawer being closed. Her presence is still close which always puts your mind at ease. Something cool is delicately placed into your hand. It's familiar against your curious fingertips, weighted yet perfectly balanced, sleek and smooth like it was made for your hand only.

"Is this what I think it is? Sweetheart if I open my eyes and this isn't what I think it is I promise I willー"

She's smiling widely with her bottom lip trapped between her teeth. You bolt up from the couch with an agape mouth, twirling the bladeー your blade, to inspect it.

"How? How did you find it?"

"I know people. A little persuasion and they were more than willing to do some digging, literally. Found it far below the surface. Whoever buried it wanted it to stay that way, they didn't want this thing to be found."
