[Song: REMEMBRANCE by Tommee Profitt]

Dear Diary,
With everything going on between mom and dad I wish they find peace and happiness. I wish to find peace, too. I know it seems impossible sometimes with everything being a mess but, somewhere deep down I know I will. Family is meant to be together for each other no matter how hard times are. Not always do people who love each other stay together. I hope someday everything will be fine. I had detected their unhappiness for years, there was always a kernel of hope in me that believed they still loved each other. I find it scary to think that you can find someone you love and one day, they stop loving you, or you stop loving them. I believe whatever happened is for good. I can see that it takes strength to break apart and to do what you need to do to be happy. If they're happy then I'm happy. Tomorrow will be a new start. Tomorrow I'll begin a new journey. Tomorrow I'll smile and be happy. Tomorrow will be a new beginning.

NEXT MORNING

BUZZZ...BUZZZZZ...
My alarm started buzzing. I tried to reach the side lamp table for it and accidentally knocked down my treasured copy of Pride and Prejudice. With blurry eyes I tried focusing on the clock, it read 7:30.

'Isn't it too early to be morning already?' I groaned turning the alarm off.

I rolled out of my bed, taking in my new bedroom before walking toward the window and pulling the curtains aside. Warm rays of sunlight started filling the room making my body shiver a little. I lazily made the bed neatly tucking the sheet into the headboard and placing the pillows in place.

I can hear Aunt Jenna opening and closing the cabinet doors in the kitchen downstairs. I realised a knot of hunger in my stomach was growing each second. Grabbing my towel, I rushed into the bathroom and as warm water touched my body, I started thinking about my new school and my life ahead here in this new place.

Gracetown is a beautiful small town in southern Virginia. Small businesses all over provide enough employment. The town has had many remarkable signs of progress over the decades making this place exceptionally beautiful. The park, town library, The grill, the town hall, and the Grace Falls include the residents' favourites and remain tourist attractions. Gracetown was founded in the early 1860s making the town's main architecture raw and historic. Gracetown is a perfect place to live away from the crowded bustling city with some city-like privileges. It's where my Nana grew up. Aunt Jenna came here after Nana passed. My mother was never a fan of this place or the idea of me moving here but here I am away from all the chaos. I love both my parents and it was a difficult decision for me to choose one of them so I exiled myself from California. Aunt Jenna is great. She is like this one cool family member you have to whom you can talk about anything. Who gives you boy advice, buys you your first makeup, and teaches you how to use it. She is the cool aunt in my family.

The only thing I detest about living here is that I know no one. Gracetown is small and everyone knows everyone. All the kids in school had grown up together. Their parents, their grandparents, and great-grandparents all of them lived here like a big family and I fear I'd be an outsider here- a lonely freak. The new girl from the big city.

It's my senior year and within months, I'll graduate ready to go to college. I can't afford any distractions and must work harder this year. Today is my first day at Gracetown High, I must put a splendid first impression if I want to spare myself from the misery of loneliness for the time being.

The hot water lessens the tension between my muscles. I washed my hair and body lazily, wrapped the towel around, and rushed out toward the wardrobe. I pulled out a sage green A-line dress, pulled my hair into a high ponytail, took my bag, and bustled downstairs.

'Iylah!'

Aunt Jenna smiled pulling me into a tight hug. I smiled, hugging her back. She pulled her dirty blond hair into a bun after releasing me.

'Breakfast is ready pumpkin. And, how do you feel about your first day at Gracetown High?' she asked pouring a glass of milk into the glass for me.

I sat down quietly in one of the chairs across the dining table opposite Aunt Jenna. The scent of maple syrup on the pancake reminded me of how hungry I am.

'Umm.. honesty, I'm nervous.'

I dug a mouthful of pancake to avoid blabbering my nervous guts out. Aunt Jenna looked at me smiling. I was expecting her to say something but that something never came.

'What if, I can't make any friends? Or worse! What if I get bullied?' I said without looking into her eyes.

'Seriously?' She looked at me with a grin.

'Don't be silly, Iylah. Everything will be fine and you'll make many friends. I'm sure of it,' She added.

I finished my breakfast and made my way to the mirror in the hallway and started analyzing my look. My perfect blond hair is inherited from my mother's side and my hazel eyes from my dad.

I need to be presentable today. I took my bag and followed Aunt Jenna to the car. I've no idea what's gonna happen ahead today.
