3. METEOR SHOWER.

As I stepped outside the car, I could see teenagers talking, laughing, drinking from red plastic cups, and enjoying. Above my head, was the clear sky full of stars. It's like the whole milky way was there. A magnificent view. I have never seen more clear and more shiny sky than this in my whole life. It was like heaven. The city life I grew up in might have been comfortable but never complete. The city lights of California could never be as beautiful and peaceful as the sky above my head. The cold breeze teases my hair at the back of my neck as I took a deep breath and let the fresh air fill my lungs.

'This place looks magical,' I said with awe still looking at the sky.

'One of my favourite places to visit,' Claire adds looking at the sky.

Suddenly a boy walks over to us with excitement and a huge smile. He comes closer and can be seen clearly. He is wearing a white Polo shirt with camouflage shorts. He grabs Claire by her waist and pulls her into a kiss. This is Liam Dixon, Claire's boyfriend. I felt oddly awkward staring at them while the two were doing their thing so I looked at the sky, again.

A moment later they break apart realizing I am standing there. Claire grabs my arm excitingly.

They look adorable together. Claire and Liam have been together since middle school. They have always been supportive of each other and well got their future together sorted out.

'you're enjoying here? Tell us if you need anything,' Liam says with a friendly smile.

'Yeah.. and thanks, I'm good,' I replied with an equally friendly smile.

'Okay first let me show you around,' Claire says locking one arm around my arm and another around Liam.

Liam kisses her forehead and tells her he'll join afterwards. He turns around and jogs towards some boys waving at them.

The sound of music is thumping through the trees. We girls walk near a bonfire under a cluster of fairytale lights surrounded by a bunch of teenagers singing and dancing and goofing around.

'This is Iylah, my friend, new in town. She just got here last week, so.. I figured I would show her a good time.' Claire tells them.

They all nod and smile at me. I saw Andrew, Jessica and Lydia wave at me. They are so friendly. A short redhead girl reaches out and pulls me in a warm hug tighter than I anticipated. She's cute and has some freckles on her face. I have seen her before in the girl's restroom arguing with another girl over some guy, maybe.

'I'm Masie, nice to meet you.' She says to me.

'Nice to meet you, too,' I smiled back at her.

'You look familiar. I've seen you somewhere?' Masie asks me. 'Or I'm having Deja-vu.' She laughs and the group joins her.

'You're having a Deja-vu.'

A muscular boy laughs and gives Masie a playful fist bump on her shoulder. She squeezes in between me and Claire flinging her arms around us.

'And you are a crackhead, Jeremy.'

A girl adds arrogantly drinking from a red cup. Her black hair had blue highlights. She's wearing shorts and a tank top.

'Shut up, Alex. The only crackhead here is you.' Jeremy frowns at the arrogant girl whose name I heard is Alex. She's the girl Masie was arguing with.

Bad-girl vibes? check.

'Umm.. actually you saw me earlier today when you both were busy arguing. Or that looked like one, I guess.' I added breaking the intensity growing between them.

'Okay, guys that's all for today. I can't bear another war. What about a game?' Another boy asks everyone, eventually at me with excitement.

'Kaleb,' He continues introducing himself, smiling at me.

I smile back at Kaleb.

Everyone here is so nice, except for Alex. I don't know, just not a fan of their attitude.

Liam joins the group pulling Claire into a kiss.

After a few minutes of arguing they all agree to play a teenager's game which will probably end in disaster.

'Suck and Blow!' Kaleb slurs and Claire, Liam, Masie, Jeremy, and Alex including Kaleb settles down around the fire.

What? Really? Suck in a stupid card and blow it out on another person's lips to pass it. Not my type. What if I drop the card? What if any one of them drops it? I don't want to kiss a person whom I met a few minutes ago. I can't and I don't want to kiss someone I just met.

I stood there ice-cold thinking about the possible consequences of playing this game. What a start to a "beginners guide on how to embarrass yourself in a new school."

'You'll Play, right?'Alex says with a wicked smile.

Who told you that?

'I'd rather not,' I said looking straight at her.

'Oh Iylah, you must play. I can assure you you'll never forget this day. Stop being a nerd for one night.' She tells me and laughs wickedly.

This bitch! Her words fill anger inside me. A nerd? Maybe some people don't like stupid party games and mind their own business. Maybe some people don't like to embarrass themselves in front of possible new friends. At least I am not mean to someone whom I  met a few minutes ago.

'No! She doesn't have to. Stop being mean to her.' Claire stands between me and Alex, taking my side.

Alex rolls her eyes in disgust and whispers something into Kaleb's ears and he laughs.

' You guys play and I'll go do some exploring.' I told them quickly to avoid any reason to stick around anymore.

'I'll find you in a while. Just don't get lost.' Claire laughs.

'I won't,' I added dramatically hugging her.

It was a beautiful night so I waved at them and started walking toward a fountain as fast as possible.

It's not crowded at all there. I sat on the edge of the small concrete pool which is collecting the water. The sound of water flowing into the pool is so relaxing. The area around the fountain is decorated with fairytale lights. And the sky above with millions of stars adds up to enhance the beauty of this night.

I looked up and saw a shooting star, and instantly closed my eyes to make a wish.

I wish Mom and Dad find peace and happiness. I wish for them and Aunt Jenna and my new friends to be happy.

'What did you wish for?'

A sweet masculine voice came from behind.

'A wish must be kept secret or else it'll never come true," I answered smiling with my eyes still closed.
