[SONG: HOLLAND by Glass Face]
*This chapter is a flashback*
Adrian's POV
I was at The Grill, waiting for my order, when I noticed her sitting at a table across the room. She was with some lady. When I first laid eyes on her, it was as if time stood still. The air around us seemed to thicken.
I couldn't stop staring at her. There was something about her that just drew me in. I could tell that she was upset, but she was trying to hide it. I wanted to go over and talk to her, but I didn't know how to approach her. After a few minutes, they left, and I couldn't stop thinking about her. Her face was etched in my mind, and I knew I had to find out more about her.
There was a voice inside my head, continuously telling me to find her. I wanted to know her. I wanted to know her name, her hobbies, her likes, and her dislikes. I wanted to know everything about her. I wanted to see her again. Every time I closed my eyes, she was the one I could see. She was a stranger to me but it felt like I knew her for ages. Every time I think about her, my heart starts beating faster and faster. I felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest. I am in love. I am in love with a stranger.
(A week later in school)
I had no idea that I was about to see her again in class. She was sitting right beside where I sat.
As we locked eyes, a wave of excitement washed over me, and I felt an instant race of electricity running through my veins. I knew that I had to talk to her, but I was so nervous that I ran as fast as I could.I knew Iylah and my sister had become friends now but I wasn't sure if she'd be at the sighting party. I couldn't take any more chances. I had to talk to her. There were so many people from school there but my eyes were looking for her. I saw her walk towards the fountain. She was sitting there looking at the sky. I walked closer to her and gathered all my courage.
Damn! I've never been this nervous before.
"What did you wish for?"
I ask her from behind.
"A wish must be kept secret or else it'll never come true" she answers smiling with her eyes close.
Her voice gives a chill to my spine. A relaxing chill. She's so sweet. I love how she smiles. Her smile can light up this whole town. The light is dim but she still looks beautiful.
She opens her eyes and looks straight into my eyes. It's like she's studying me.
"Can I?" I smile and ask her pointing at the edge of the pool.
"Yeah, of course," She says smiling back at me.
I sat there with her not knowing my next step. She is looking straight towards the party.
I was very nervous so I disappeared from there quickly as she took the phone call. I didn't want my sister or any of her friends to see me. I didn't want to rush things with her.
(Next day at school)
I saw her walking back from practice. Before asking Iylah out for coffee, I was feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement. My heart was racing, and my palms were sweaty. I couldn't help but overthink every possible outcome, wondering if she would say yes or turn me down.
The fear of rejection weighed heavily on my mind, causing my stomach to churn with anticipation. Doubt crept in, making me question whether I was making the right move. But deep down, I knew I had to take a chance and express my feelings. Despite the nerves, there was also a sense of hope and anticipation. I couldn't deny the connection I felt with Iylah, and the thought of spending more time together over a cup of coffee filled me with excitement.
So, with a deep breath and a leap of faith, I gathered the courage to ask her out, hoping that she would feel the same way.
Iylah's eyes sparkled with a warm smile, and her face lit up with excitement. The tension in my body instantly melted away as she replied, accepting my invitation. Her positive response filled me with a rush of joy and relief. It was as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I couldn't help but smile back at her, my heart soaring with happiness. At that moment, I realized that taking the leap and asking Iylah out was worth every nerve-wracking second.
With each word she spoke, I was drawn deeper into her world. Her laughter was like music, filling the air with joy and creating a symphony of happiness within me. Sitting by the riverside, we shared stories and laughs and it felt like we had known each other for a lifetime. Her smile was like a ray of sunshine, warming my heart and igniting a sense of wonder within me.
That evening, I realized that she was not just a person I had met by chance, she was special. As the evening drew to a close, I couldn't help but feel a tinge of sadness, knowing that our time together was limited. I knew deep in my heart that I had found something truly special.
