Chapter 15

The staff member looked up at us suspiciously, probably wondering why  we looked at him with wide eyes. Brushing it off with awkward laughter, we nodded and started packing up.

The day of the audition

Jae-in POV
I barely slept last night from the nerves getting the better of me and the excitement flooding my veins, which sucks cause I really wanted to rest well for the audition today. This could make it or break it for me, I'm either in with Jake or I'm not.

After a quick breakfast of fish? bread? Heeseung ushered all the members and I into a dark van so we would be on time. Yeah.. I don't know what it is with Ni-ki and his obsession with fish bread either but it's food so I'm not exactly complaining as long as the brat doesn't poison me.

When we arrived at the HYBE building, I took a deep breath in. Even Sunghoon came with crutches so he could 'be supportive' because 'you need me idiot', which only made my nerves worse.

What if I let him down? What if I let them all down? What if I mess up and step on Jungwon's toes and he fractures them and then he also has to use crutches?

"Ahem.." Just then I was snapped out of my thoughts, looking up to see Jungwon and Sunghoon standing outside the van, waiting for me to get off like normal people do.

"You better not be chickening out, I literally fell for you yesterday." Sunghoon said pointedly, I swear that boy was sassing me on purpose because he wasn't my dance partner anymore.

Jungwon smiled and dragged me up by the hand, ignoring Sunghoon's comment and walking into the building with me following along.

Not wanting to leave Sunghoon there, I said "Wait slow down a little, Sunghoon might need help with his ankle and all.." Jungwon looked from me to Sunghoon with a questioning look, as if trying to figure something out.

With a sigh, he said "You go on, I'll meet you outside the audition room." Before I could reply, he ran back to Sunghoon to support him.

Glad he was helping out, I went to the left wing on the 4th floor where the audition was going to be held, going over all the steps and lyrics in my head.

The rest of the members were already seated outside, seeming bored from the wait. "The producers will call you in in around 10 minutes," Jay said, looking up from his phone.

I smiled and nodded, not wanting them to see how nervous I really was. Jake walked up to me and put a hand on my shoulder.

"Hey sis, no pressure alright you're going to do great. After all, I am your brother aren't I?" Was that supposed to be reassuring- I thought to myself, returning his fist bump to distract myself from the muffled voices of the producers that I could hear through the door.

Soon after, Jungwon and Sunghoon came up, with serious looks on their faces. Hoping to lighten the mood, I motioned to Jungwon so he would come practise our routine one last time, but from the corner of my eye I saw Sunghoon's face darken.

Before I could take a proper look to see if I was just imagining things or not, Jungwon came to me with a dimpled smile, blocking my view of Sunghoon completely.

"Let's do it one last time."

Soon afterwards, a staff member came out to inform us it was time for the audition. Walking into the audition room, it was so silent I thought the producers would be able to hear my heart pounding away, but Jungwon's presence made it much more bearable

As the last note of our track faded off, we stood in our ending pose, breathing heavily from the tough choreography. After a speed run of my vocal audition with a verse of rap, it came the time for the producers to deliberate.

We walked out of the audition room together, facing 6 pairs of eyes staring at us in anticipation to hear how it went. I felt sick to my stomach, not confident in my audition and worried that I could've done better.

Noticing my silence, Sunghoon walked- uh limped? over to me and put his fingers on my cheeks to curve my mouth into a smile. Realising what he was trying to do, I slapped his hands away.

"What the- gross man.." At that, Sunghoon smiled cheekily back, with no trace of the previously murderous look he had. Maybe I was just imagining it...

Then the producers called us back in, allowing the other members in as well to hear the final result. Oh great.. imagine if I get rejected in front of all the members...as if doing it alone wasn't bad enough.

"We've deliberated carefully, especially since Enhypen has already debuted, but seeing your dedication, efficiency and talent, along with the support from Enhypen members, we have decided to enlist you into Enhypen as the assistant leader and main dancer."

My jaw dropped open. No...maybe I'm still asleep and dreaming... It was then that Jake coughed obnoxiously loud, snapping me back to reality. RIGHT there's still a lot of tasks to get to, debuting a month after their debut would be even more work.

After signing contracts and finishing up with paperwork, we all filed into the hallways, with the members coming up to congratulate me and me still being slightly in disbelief.

"I knew you could do it sis, dinner on me today? We could go to the new BBQ place down the road with the members...I'll book a room!" Jake said excitedly.

Seeing his enthusiasm, I laughed and agreed. Sunghoon later came up to me and lead me into another empty practice room since the other members had to go off for dance practice.

"Congrats by the way, can't wait for you to join us, leader-nim" He said, winking in the process. Jerkface was just rubbing in the fact that he was going to use my title as an excuse to make me to things for him.

I could already imagine it... "Leader-nim, can you get me some water?" "Leader-nim, can you help me wash these?" "Can you lend me your jacket leader-nim?"

I shook my head vigorously, laughing nervously.
"Haha...no need for formalities..after all you did debut first, isn't that right sunbae?" Now it was my turn to tease him. He smirked, obviously glad he had a superior title.

"Also, what's the deal with Jungwon?"
