Chapter 16

"Also, what's the deal with Jungwon?"

Jae-in POV

"What do you mean? Jungwon's fine.."

Sunghoon shook his head, replying with "I mean why is Jungwon acting like you belong to him."

"What? Of course I don't...he told you that?"

"No, but he sure acts like it." Sunghoon said, his brows furrowing.

Sunghoon POV

I couldn't believe how oblivious Jae-in was. Obviously Jungwon was trying to get closer to her all the damn time, acting like they were the best buds just because they were once childhood friends.

When I had heard Heeseung hyung talking about the two of them being cute together after he apparently saw them huddled up together, I thought he was joking as always, but after seeing how the way Jungwon changed since she came, I wouldn't put it past him.

Jae-in was genuine, like someone who never had a care in the world, yet she cared so much about those close to her. She was pure as if there were world peace, but she was also mature and knew all about the horrible side of the world.

The racism, the pain, the injustice, were all things she knew about yet never showed in the way she carried herself. When she first came I thought she was be as carefree and kind as Jake, but she's much more than I had expected.

It almost made me want to be Jungwon, to make her feel the same way for me. But of course, I probably scared her off after the first impression. Later on, when we got closer, she would always laugh and tease me about all the comments she saw.

"Sunghoon ice prince? More like snow dummy," she would say, bursting into a laughing fit when I was literally standing beside her. Rude.

But besides that point, she seemed like the only female who wasn't completely falling at my feet. That was new to me and took some getting used to, especially since our friendship was completely platonic to her.

"Earth to Sunghoon!"

Snapping out of my daze, I looked down to see Jae-in's face inches away, waving her hand frantically in front of my face.

"Oh phew finally, I thought you had been tased or something." She said, laughing at her own joke.

I hope she couldn't hear my heart pounding against my chest because she would definitely never shut up about it. To my surprise, she leaned in closer to my chest, causing my eyes to bulge.

"W-what are you doing.." I said, hoping she would step back. Oh god did I just stammer? What's wrong with me, today of all days.

We stood in silence for a good minute until she said "Your heartbeat's awfully loud," smirking up at me with a knowing look.

"Well yeah you're standing near it dumbdumb." I replied. PLAY IT COOL SUNGHOON. JUST PLAY IT COOL.

Jae-in POV

Sunghoon was acting all weird and suspicious so I merely rolled my eyes at his comment and told him I was going back to the dorm to finish up some homework.

"I'll see you at dinner later!" I called over my shoulder as I walked back towards the elevator.

After I got back to the comfort of my dorm- sorry I mean THEIR dorm but soon-to-be mine too, I washed up and did some homework, before taking a quick nap since there was still time before I had to meet the members at 6pm for dinner.

I woke up to 15 missed calls from Jungwon and another 20 from Sunghoon, as well as 5 from Jake.
"What the..."

Oh god it was already 7pm I was running ridiculously late to my OWN congratulatory dinner, what a joke. I called Jake back, telling him to start ordering first and that I'd be there in 30min.

Jake laughed it off, probably used to my awful excuses and helped to reassure the others that I would be arriving soon.

Once I finally got to the restaurant, I was ushered deep into the place, into a private room with an intricate golden design. Inside, the members were already eating away.

"I guess nobody cared enough to wait for the special guest?" I said, fake-pouting to get my point across.

Jake immediately shot up, coming over to hug me. "Look who decided to show up! That'a gurl!" I shot him a glare, but ended up breaking character after seeing his sincerity.

"I waited though!" Jungwon said, walking up to me with a wide smile. As he was about to hug me like Jake did, I saw Sunghoon out of the corner of my eye. He looked the other way when he saw me looking, but didn't get up.

After giving Jungwon a quick hug, everyone came up one by one to congratulate me and saying sweet words like being excited for our new comeback together. Seeing that Sunghoon wasn't really talking, I tried to include him by saying
"Sunghoon, don't recognise me anymore?"

At that, he smiled, nodding to acknowledge me and brushing off the comment by passing me a plate of food. They had ordered a whole ton of food and I was pretty sure we would need some sumo wrestlers to help us finish it.

This probably wouldn't make too much of a dent in Jake's wallet though, I've seen how much mom and dad give him for allowance and he also earns his own money on top of that now.

I looked around the room, trying to take a mental photograph of the scene in front of me.

Sunghoon and Jake, sitting opposite me, trying to discuss some evil plan to take over the world and fill it with puppies if needed, Ni-ki and Sunoo giggling and trying to see who was the better English speaker, Heeseung and Jay trying to drown out the noise by eating like 2 rich ladies and Jungwon beside me, watching over all of them with a loving look.

Noticing me looking at him, Jungwon scooted his chair nearer and whispered, "They can be a handful at times"

Laughing at his sudden confession and how he seemed like their parents, I replied saying "Yeah.. I don't know how I'm gonna be assistant leader"

Looking straight into my soul, he replied softly, saying "I wouldn't want it to be anyone else, and besides, you have me, don't you?"
