I splurged on a taxi to take me back to the hotel, I probably could have walked but it was getting dark and I didn't want to risk getting lost. Not to mention that even though I had only gone through three time zones since leaving Michigan but the time difference was starting to mess me up, I was tired.

The hotel room was small, though I had a decent budget for this runaway journey I didn't want to waste more than I had to on a hotel. I rented the room out for a week, that mixed with the price of the plane ticket out here, and estimating the cost of one back, I didn't have nearly as much as I had thought. Turns out running away is sort of expensive, who knew. But I didn't dwell on it, the room was fine. Especially considering I wanted to spend a majority of my time exploring the land I had escaped to. I plugged my phone into the charger searching through the missed calls and texts and decided to call my mom back. To be fair, she didn't deserve to feel upset about me being gone. She had probably assumed that I was dead and I was starting to feel guilty.

"Hello Ella!" my mom yelled into the phone, I turned down my cell phones volume as her voice boomed through the phone. "Where are you?"

"Mom, calm down," I said plopping into the desk chair near the outlet where my phone was plugged in.

"Ella Marie! Where are you?"

"The funny thing is I left you and dad a letter on the desk in my room, if you would have looked you would know everything my now." I said with a bit of attitude, it had really annoyed me that she hadn't found it yet.

"What, Ella what have you done?"

"Mom, I left. I'm fine, I'm alive and breathing."

"You won't be once I get done with you, you need to get back home right now!" mom yelled, I could hear the worry in her voice.

"Mom, I'm an adult, you can't force me to come home when I don't want to."

"Ella, you can't just leave and not say anything."

"I'm in California mom, I've been saving money for years, this is what I have wanted for years. I will come home, I don't know when, but I will."

"You're safe?" she was holding back tears, I could tell but the change in her voice.

"Yes, mom. Very safe."

"You won't ignore me anymore?"

"I'll call you when I can and text you when I can't."

"I love you Ella, you know I only want what's best for you."

"I know mom, I love you too."

"If there's nothing I can say to get you to come home, then be safe and explore. You've talked about escaping Michigan since you were old enough to understand that it was possible to leave. I'll be here for you if you need anything, I can be on a plane faster than you think."

"I know, I'll be home before you know it," I laughed. "I love you mom, I'll talk to you soon."

"I love you too baby, talk soon."

I hung up the phone with a deep breath. It felt better to know that my mom could finally calm down and leave me be. I suppose it would have made things easier if I had horrible parents or some kind of broken home. But to be fair, I didn't. Yeah, my parents fought. They pushed me to go to college, but eventually accepted when I didn't. They are good parents, loving, caring, supportive. However I knew if I told them that I wanted to leave, they would stop me. Maybe that's why I didn't, I knew they would be more supportive if I was already gone than if I was deciding to go.

I sat my phone down only to be startled by it vibrating against the desk as soon as I stood up from the chair. I glanced at the screen, 'Kian'.

"Shit!" I said frantically grabbing the phone and unlocking it to read the message. I had to admit, though I was doubtful at the beginning, I hadn't stopped thinking about him all evening.

Ella! I like froyo, you like froyo. Let's froyo together tomorrow?

I panicked for a minute before replying, I just had yogurt today

Ella, Ella, Ellllllllllaaaaa, you can never have too much froyo!

I had to admit, he was trying pretty hard, When? Where?

The Grove, same place you went today, I'll meet you there at 2:30 darlin!

See you then, I replied before plopping down on the bed. What had I gotten myself into? I thought before curling up under the covers.
