My first attempt at trying to use an iron to smooth out my wrinkled dress was a total fail. Perhaps the hotel's iron was crap or I was crap at trying to use the thing. But my dress was no less wrinkled than when I started by the time I gave up. I hoped no one would mention it but this was LA a place where people paid more attention to your clothes than you.

Kian called saying that he was going to pick me up in an Uber, since he didn't know where the hotel was. While waiting in the lobby I became flooded with anxiety. What was I doing? I wasn't the type of girl to just meet someone, a stranger of sorts, and just go to their house. I debated calling the whole thing off until I saw Kian step out of a black vehicle parked outside the door, a hand full of sunflowers. I rushed out the door, faster than I expected honestly.

"For you!" Kian said holding out the flowers. They weren't some type of perfect bouquet but to me they were perfect. The uneven stems and the few with wilted leaves gave it character.

"Should I run up and put them in water?" I asked taking the bunch in my hands.

"You could, or we could put them in water at my house." The driver was waiting so I shrugged and stepped toward the car.

"These are perfect," I gushed as Kian closed the car door and we were off.

"Far from it! I'm a guy I don't know what looks good when it comes to flowers and shit. I just go for what looks the least dead." He laughed picking at the wilted leaves. "But sunflowers have these big middle brown bits, almost the same color as your eyes."

We sat in silence for a moment staring at each other before Kian smiled and looked away. Staring out the window we watched the world pass us by, he named out places that he and his friends liked to go. Which to be fair was almost every place we past by.

"This is it!" Kian pointed to the house near the top of the hill. I have to admit the house was pretty rad. The view was something I had never seen from a home before. I stayed a few steps behind Kian as we entered the front door. "Honey, I'm home!"

"Bout time!" Jc yelled, I remembered him from the other day however he was followed by a few unfamiliar faces.

"Ella, this is Jc, Dom, JJ, and Anthony. It's kind of a bro fest until some other people show up." Kian said with a shrug.

"Sorry, Kian and Jc don't exactly plan shit, it's more of, hey guys we woke up and thought we should have a party so we are, kind of thing." Dom said poking Jc as he spoke.

"Shut up bitch, you know you love it!" Jc said smacking him before the boys headed back outside.

"Let's get some water," Kian said grabbing my hand and leading me into the kitchen, where he filled a tall glass with water before placing the flowers in it. "Look at that! Who says you need an expensive vase! This cup was like three bucks at Target!"

I laughed following Kian as he headed outside with the other boys. I was slightly uncomfortable but tried not to show it. The pool was a bit dirty but the boys swam regardless, Jc sat in a chair eyes glued to his phone.

"Guess who just texted and asked if they could come tonight!" Jc said giggling.

"Who?" Kian said pulling two chairs near Jc and the pool for him and I.

"Andrea and Arden!" Jc paused waiting for Kian's reaction, "What should I say?"

Kian's face said there was more to this story, I wasn't sure if I wanted to know or not. "Say whatever you want dude, I don't care." His clenched jaw and avoiding eye contact made me think that there was definitely a bigger story but I didn't want to pry.

"Don't you think that will be fucking awkward!" Anthony said laughing before Dom dunked him under the pool water.

"Ignore him," Dom said before letting him break free.

"It's whatever," Kian said shooting a death glare at all of the boys except JJ who was sitting on the edge of the pool scrolling through Instagram.

"Bastard! I could have drowned!" Anthony shouted, splashing up from under Dom's grasp.

"Ahhhh! But you didn't," Dom said with a laugh.

"Ok, well I told them they could come if they didn't start shit," Jc said staring at Kian waiting for some type of a response. However, Kian kept quiet, his jaw still clenched as he rolled his eyes.

"Change the freaking subject," Dom said as he darted toward the edge of the pool where JJ was sitting.

"If you get my phone wet I swear!" JJ said as he scooted further from the edge.

"Do you want to swim?" Kian asked, I looked back toward the water and shook my head no.

"Well if you change your mind, you can borrow a tee shirt and some shorts or something from me," Kian said with a smile.

"Thanks," I said watching the two boys splashing in the water like children.

"They don't always act this stupid," Jc said laughing, "Shit, I can't even lie yes they do."

"Shut your mouth!" Anthony yelled over. It was slightly awkward but I tried to ignore it, I hoped that once more people arrived that things would get more comfortable. But until then I had to try to look like I wasn't horribly anxious.

"Jc, did you ever order the pizzas?" Kian asked turning to face him.

"Nah, dude I got some burgers for Dom and I to grill."

"Well looks like we aren't eating! I know you guys will manage to fuck those up, better get domino's on speed dial now," Kian said throwing his hands in the air.

"Have some faith dude! It's all good," Jc said heading inside.

"Come on," Kian said standing and holding his hand out for me to grab. I stood, placing my hand in his and following his lead through the house. "There's someone else you have to meet!"

My heart raced as we headed down the hall toward a closed door, "Hazel!" Kian shouted as he opened the door to his bedroom and a yellow lab puppy came rushing to meet him with kisses.

"She's adorable!" I laughed watching her jump onto him as he crouched on floor to hold her.

"This is my Hazel! She's a little hyper, like all the fucking time but she's cute so it makes up for it."

I sat down on the floor next to Kian and she rushed into my arms, covering me in kisses.

"Well you passed tests one and two, friends like you and Hazey likes you. I guess things will work out," Kian laughed as he stood up and headed into the room. "We can hang out here until some more people show up, makes it a bit less awkward."

I stood up and headed into the room as Hazel ran down the hall toward the backyard.
