The Lies Between Us
23 - Checkmate
Days go by fast after the Comic Con event. And Lisie Moore thought she's already experienced the worst schedule when she was booked for a dozen runway shows at Milan Fashion Week. Until Princetown promotions happened.
She hasn't had any wink of sleep last night especially after Hayes had stopped by in her apartment and confessed.
"This might sound really weird, but believe me I like you. I like you a lot and this definitely can't wait til morning."
At first, she thought it was a prank since he loves to joke a lot with her but this time, he did not even blink. His face was hard with determination and it sure did make her nervous.
Hayes is someone she treasures like Saint and Jacey are to her. And hearing those words from him only made her confirm things. These strong feelings she has for someone else – it never left. She was sure of it because why would Tait's begging face flashed in her mind the moment Hayes confessed to her?
"Hay..." She was speechless. She knew she's not ready for any kind of relationship right now but she didn't want to break his heart either.
"It's okay, you don't have to answer. I just really wanted to let you know." Hayes sighed finally relaxing.
"Damn, I thought I was gonna die," He chuckled then his face slowly got serious again.
Lisie gulped looking at his eyes not knowing what to say. She wanted to tell him she likes him a lot as well just not the way he sees it. She tried to like him like that but...
"This is really...wow..." She shook her head. She was about to tell him how he means to her but the ringing of her phone from her center table took off like an alarm bell.
She saw how Hayes shut his eyes close as if he's frustrated about something. "I got to go. I want to say sorry for disturbing you this late but I really can't wait for tomorrow."
"Silly you," Lisie shook her head and waved him goodbye. It was kind of relieving because she was confronted unprepared.
After that she turned to her phone to see who's calling.
She frowned when she sees Tait's unknown number on her screen. Although he's unnamed, she knows it's his number since he's calling her almost every day.
Her confrontation with Hayes shocked her so much that she didn't want to hear anymore from boys so she dismissed his call.
Even though she has special feelings for the guy doesn't mean she wanted to start something with him. What happened in the past was enough to teach her that getting in a relationship with a costar means nothing but trouble. She couldn't thank him enough for denying her. Because while she was mending her own heart, she's come to understand why it happened. Her consolation was that she was saved from being bombarded by obsessive stalkers, chaotic paparazzi and vengeful Tait Kingston loyalists had she ended up being in a relationship with a superstar.
It could've been worse.
Few seconds later, Tait was calling again.
"Hmm?" Lisie answered.
"Did you just reject my call?" Tait exclaimed on the other line.
"I'm sleepy." Lisie lied.
"Was Hayes just there?"
