The sounds of feet hitting wet concrete filled the air around her along with the blood curdling screech she could not seem to escape from...
Luna could feel the heat squeezing in her lungs as she ran farther and farther through the unknown place around her. Branches whipped at her face, leaving tiny stinging cuts. To distracted by the feeling, not even taking notice that it wasn't rain that had wet the concreate beneath her now burgundy stained white converse. All Luna knew by instinct is she had to run if she wanted to make it out alive, even though she had no clue what she was running from.
She dared look back over her shoulder out of curiosity, being met by a set of glowing green eyes. Rushing, she fell and cracked her elbow off the concert splitting it wide. Before she knew it her blood was soon mixing with the puddles under her feet. She stared stunned at the shadow creature as it moved closer. Pain split through her entire being, every bone and joint sore from the endless running. Before it could catch her she rose to her feet and continued to run as fast as she could, scared for her life..
"Luna!" She heard a voice calling for her over the shrills coming from the creature that was in toe, heavy throaty growls soon followed.
"Luna!" The voice shouted once again but before she could reach, serrated claws caught the back of her calf, mangling the the fleshy tendons bellow the denim. This was it... She knew this was the end... Luna took in one last pained deep breath focusing on the voice yelling her name as the shadow creature's teeth scored into her soft flesh, ripping it from her bone...
Everything became dim... she heard one last yell of her name and everything soon faded from view...
"LUNA!" The girls eyes snapped open as she let out a high pitched breathy shrike, being scared from her sleep by the same voice calling inside her head. Soon finding her mouth to be covered by a larger hand. She was panting and sweating, thanking the gods that it had only been another night terror to which she suffered from often. Her eyes came into focus from the sleep still bereding them, only to notice who the hand belong to.
"You were yelling in your sleep doll," Elijah spoke in a softer voice then when they had first met mere hours ago. Sweat soaked, her raven bangs dripped into her eyes as she moved back slightly. She still wasn't used to human touch after what had happened to her. She couldn't help but to notice the tightness of tear stained cheeks she had become accustom to.
Luna looked at him and gave an awkward smile, knowing she probably ripped the other from his own slumber. He was only half dressed in sweat pants that matched the same plaid he was adorn with earlier that evening. A small blush spread across her tanned cheeks as she tried not to notice. This was defiantly new territory for the shy girl, never have been even this close to really anyone but the doctors in a very long time.
"Thank you for waking me up...I get really bad night terrors sometimes, so I'm sorry if I woke you." Luna tried to be polite, it wasn't often she talked to anyone around her own age. These past few years after living with two elderly fosters and never going anywhere didn't help. Plus she was a super introverted person by nature and liked to keep it that way.
"It's not a problem honestly, I was just sneaking down to get some more beignet's now that Ada's asleep. I heard you whimpering and yelling and couldn't just leave you like that. I'm really not as big as a asshole as most of them will tell you." Elijah let out a soft chuckle coming to the end of his sentence.
"Well I do appreciate it. It's really hard you know? To pull yourself out of them I mean.." Luna spoke as she looked down and picked at the skin around her thumb. A nervous tick she had picked up many years ago. Her raven hair fell into her face hiding her from him in her own way, embarrassment still spread across her tanned cheeks.
"I used to get them too before coming here, Mr. Graves saved me and Em from a rather intense situation." He spoke out with a slight sadness laced in his words before moving away from her. He slowly made his way to her door before stopping, "If you're hungry, Em made sure to save you a plate from supper and I just might save you one of Ada's beignets" He left with a chuckle while running his hand through his mid length ebony hair.
Luna soon released a breath that she hadn't noticed she had even been holding in, nerves set a flare from the social interaction. Though she honestly was starting to feel more comfortable. She took comfort in knowing she wasn't alone in some situations anymore helped with that. She shamed herself for being so damn awkward around everyone. She pulled herself from the comfort of the bed, happy to find a large suitcase and few boxes at the end of the bed that Mr. Graves must have brought in when she was passed out.
She opened the smaller box finding most of her belongings and smiled. She pulled the withered scraps of her favorite teddy-bear that had been sewn back together various times. It was one of the last things she still had that her mother had given her. Followed by that was the snow globes she had collected with her mother over the years. She picked one up and shook it, the glitter sloshing around a set of dolphins in the clouded liquid from age. Tears found their way back into her eyes as she held the items to her before placing them down. She missed her mother dearly. Though, sometimes it was hard remembering how things were before. Before being passed around from home to home and never knowing where she would be next. These little things helped her hold on to something that never had to change and brought a silent sense of security.
From there she moved on to the huge suitcase that held every piece of clothing she owned. She smiled seeing some of her favorite items she had collected over the years, never really growing out of the same size. Settling for the first items she found, she slipped on a pair of soft gray shorts before pulling on an oversized Pantera shirt she always found comfort in. She soon got up and made her way out of the room for the first time.
Something about this place made her feel at ease.
She thought to herself, "Maybe this will finally be Home..."
