"So Ester, anything new with you lately."
She leaned back in her chair with one leg resting on the seat and the other on the floor. "Well funny you should ask, I did hear some gossip from the chamber maids earlier this morning."
Your eyebrow rose. "Oh?"
"Mhm, but don't worry it's nothing bad." She took a sip of tea.
"That's good, I don't want to deal with any drama."
She nodded.
"So go on, tell me."
She laughed as she set her cup down. She took out pieces of parchment and unfolded them. She flattened all of them out on the table before sliding them to you. "Feast your eyes on that."
You shuffled through what seemed to be different letters and skimmed through them. "I don't get it, there just letters." You handed them back to Ester. "What does this have to do with the gossip."
"Oh Y/n. There not just letters, well I mean they are but that's not the point." She walked behind you put the papers in front of your face. "There letters from Lady Eonia to Lord Wilbur!" She pointed to where the names were signed.
You took them from her hooves and read it more closely this time. "So what does that mean."
She placed her hooves on your shoulders. "It means Lady Eonia is trying to get courted by Wilbur."
"How can you be certain ?"
She sat back across from you. "That's where the gossip comes in. I'm friends with some of the maids who clean for her and they overhead her talking about how if Wilbur courts her, she'll be successful."
"So she wants him for power?"
She grabbed the pot and poured herself some more tea. "Eh kinda." She sighed. "It's complicated but to sum it up she fancies him a lot."
You looked down at the letters in your hands. You wondered if he felt the same about her.
"Who is Lady Eonia anyways?" You asked.
"She's this prestigious woman everyone loves. She's only kind to people she likes otherwise you'll be faced with a serious and cold person. I hate to admit it but she is attractive not to mention smart."
You rolled your eyes. "I'm sure she's not that great."
Ester chuckled. "Oho ho! You're jealous aren't you."
Your eyes widened. "What no! I'd never be jealous of an uptight bitch."
"Your jealous your jealous!" She walked up to you and began to poke you teasingly.
You laughed. "I am not Ester!" You winced, grabbing your side from laughing to hard.
Ester immediately stopped pestering you. "I think it's time to change the plasters." She grabbed your hand and forearm to help you up. "Don't worry Bbh taught me how."
"Thanks." You let her guide you to the bathroom. "How'd you even get those letters in the first place?"
She was stifling a laugh. "I stole it from her bedroom when I was giving her sword back after I fixed it up for her."
You couldn't help but laugh. "Ester!"
"What! I'm sure she won't miss 'em."
After Ester assisted you with your plasters you continued to talk about much calmer things until it was night. She ended up leaving pretty late but you weren't complaining.
After she left you started to clean up, you couldn't sleep knowing there was a mess waiting for you in the morning. You put the dirty dishes in the sink and placed the food back into your fridge. You checked the time - had it been that late already? You did feel awfully tired, or maybe that was just the wound talking.
Either way you were going to bed as soon as you were done tidying up. You took off your coat and flopped on the bed with a soft thud. You gripped onto your side, it was starting to hurt. You couldn't believe everything that's been happening the last few days. If it wasn't for this job you would've been out everyday tending to your farm and hunting, but most importantly you wouldn't be lying in bed injured.
You felt a wave of guilt wash over you. Ever since you started work people have had to constantly aid you. First Ester had to push her work aside just to guide you around the castle, then Bad had to fix you up, and Wilbur helped you with so many things you couldn't even begin to express how grateful you are for him.
You groaned out of frustration, you didn't like thinking about it. You forcefully cleared your head and focused on sleeping. If you were asleep you wouldn't have to worry about your thoughts. So you closed your eyes shut in order to fall asleep. When that didn't work you tried to move around for a more comfortable position, but you still hadn't fallen asleep.
