Chapter 2: Competition Day

“Aria you wake your skinny butt up right now before I get the water!” I practically jumped ten feet in the air to get out of my bed. If there was ever a threat that scared me it was when my mom said she would get the ice water. I could remember that day perfectly and wished to not relive it anytime soon so I got up and sluggishly walked to my dresser.

I pulled out a pair of pants and sleeveless shirt that would not hinder my movements in any way. Today was competition day so I would need to wear clothing that was easy to move in even if it did not look exactly fashionable. After picking out my clothes, I went to the bathroom to get cleaned up. Finishing this up, I went back into my room to get shoes. Once finding them, I turned to leave and there standing in my doorway was none other then one of my best friends and the smartest person I knew; Jason Grimm. He was about 6'4” with dark brown hair that went to just above his shoulders with brown eyes to match. Now add high cheek bones, flawless light skin and white perfect teeth. He had on a pair of dark jeans, black sneakers and a black short sleeve shirt that did good at showing off his a little more than average muscles. As you could probably tell my best friend was quite the looker and even I had to take a look sometimes.

“ So are you ready for a big day?” He asked stepping in my room to give me a hug. He smelt of the tunnels shampoo and body wash as we all used the same kind.

“Of course I'm ready! I haven't been training my whole life to be a great archer and fighter for nothing. I have this in the bag.” I stated with a confident smile on my face.

“Oh yeah? What bag? The one where your over confidence in yourself bites you in the butt and you end up losing your match?” He asked with a smirk. Okay so I also forgot to mention that he can be somewhat of a Debbie Downer and kill your mood. That is if your not me and have dealt with his attitude since the age of four.

“You think your so funny but you'll see when I kick butt in the tournament today. I'm not called the best for nothing you know.” I said smugly.

“In that case how about we make a bet? If you lose then you have to skip around the tunnels singing 'I'm a loser' in a ridiculous outfit.” He said with an evil grin. For a moment, all I could do was stand there with my mouth hanging wide open. What a friend he was to go and make his best friend do something embarrassing after losing the competition she had been training to win practically her whole life.

“You know what? Fine.” I said after another few moments of just standing there. It may be bad but I could never back down from a bet. “But if I win you owe me a favor.” I said, returning the evil grin.

“Deal.” Jason said after thinking it over. “Lets shake on it.” He extended his hand out to me and I immediately took it.

“Aria, mom-” Alia stopped when she noticed Jason inside my room. “Oh, uh, hello Jason....” She said awkwardly but not looking at him as she said it. “Um Ari, mom said she wants to see you in the kitchen before we go down for breakfast.” And with that she exited my room without a spare glance in Jason's direction.

“Is there something that happened between the two of you that I should know about?” I asked with a raised eyebrow.

“I don't think so....?” He said confusedly.

“Well then I guess we better head down to breakfast. Will you wait outside the apartment for me while I go and talk to my mom?”

“Yeah sure. Just try to hurry because I am starving.” As if on cue, both of our stomachs start to growl. Laughing, we both make our way out of my room, splitting at the end of the hallway.
