Running away? Sure, not your best move. But it was all you could think of doing at the time. And so you ran. Really far. Past your school. Past your house. You just kept going. You stopped when you felt sand kick up into your mouth. "EW WHAT THE- ehhh gross.." You sputtered as you tried to get the sand out of your mouth.
After successfully doing so, you took in your surroundings and realized you were on a beach. Takoba Municipal Beach Park to be exact, the beach Midoriya had cleared himself all those months ago.
Without thinking you fell backwards onto the soft sand, landing on your back with a thump.
"Today has been crazy..." You sighed. Staring up at the star filled night. "To think if I had just stayed home, maybe even gone on a trip of my own, none of this would have happened. No confessions would have been made. And yet here I am with not one, not two, not three but SIX of them in one day. God, I really can't do this right now..."
"Can't do what?" You looked to you side to see none other than Izuku Midoriya, making his way over to you. "For the sake of your back and overall health I hope you mean sleeping in the sand."
"Hi Izuku.." You said solemnly, keeping your place on the ground. Midoriya gave you a sad look, before placing himself beside you in the sand.
"If you squint really hard in that direction, you can kinda see Sagittarius." He said, pointing his finger up and to the left.
"Mmhm..." You were definitely not in this conversation. Midoriya bit the inside of his cheek, thinking up ways to make you feel better.
"...and if you look over to your right, you can see the star that can never take a joke."
"What?" You asked, looking over in Midoriya's direction with a questioning look. "Which one is that?"
"Sirius." Midoriya said with a goofy grin. It was a stupid joke, a super stupid joke. But it was just the kind of joke you needed, and so you laughed.
"Haha very funny Izuku." You chuckled as you sat up, Midoriya following suit.
"Thank you, I pride myself in corny jokes." He replied a little too proudly. "You gonna tell me what's up?"
You let out a long sigh, unsure if it was right of you to give Midoriya the full story. He's your best friend, so it's not like you could keep it away from him forever. Either A) you'd cave and tell him or B) he'd find out himself sooner or later. So instead of dealing with wasted time, you decided to give him a less detailed explanation as to keep everyone's privacy.
"Let's say you've recently found out that a few of your friends have crushes on you and you think they're all really awesome people but you don't know if you can satisfy all of them, if any of them at all and the more you think about it the more you start to worry because you don't know if you actually like any of them like that or only feel the need to because they like you and you don't want to feel guilty by not reciprocating their feelings but don't want to end up hurting them in the long run," One big deep breath. "What would you do?"
Midoriya stared at you wide eyed. "One second, I need to get over how you said all of that in one breath, wow." Midoriya leaned back on his hands, pondering the question. "Well I'd do whatever makes me happiest, I guess. I know that it'll hurt to reject someone but at the end of the day, you're not responsible for anyone else's happiness. And if they truly care about you, they'll understand and be happy with what decision you make, even if your decision isn't them."
"Why did you switch from saying "me" to "you"?" You asked, drawing shapes in the sand.
"Because we're talking about you, right?" Midoriya replied. "Something like that would only happen to you."
"What do you mean by that?" You muttered, pulling you legs up to your chest.
"It's kind of obvious [N/N]," Midoriya said, laughing slighting at your obliviousness. "You may not see it but everyone else does. How people stare at you in the hallways. How they get all flustered when you talk to them. Sometimes I even hear them whisper "she's perfect" when they pass by."
"I'm not perfect-" You started but was cut off with a swift
"You are," from Midoriya. "It's funny that you don't see that either..."
Crashing waves filled the silence between you two. The sounds of birds making their last runs of the evening joining the spaces in between.
"Do you like me too, Izuku?" You asked, staring out into the dark night sea.
"Mmhm," He hummed. "But I don't want to talk about that right now, and I'm sure you don't either. Would it be okay if we just stayed here for a little while?"
You stretched your legs back out and mimicked Midoriya's position, hands laid back behind you. "Yeah, we can stay here."
"Thanks."
