Chapter 18 - New Beginnings

Loralei's POV

Its been a few days since I awoke, and I already feel comfortable around Law's friends, they are a rowdy bunch, but kind.

Law would check up on the Straw hat boy and his friend everyday only for a few minutes before letting one of his crew members watch over them, and then he would go into his study room and surround himself in books.

And I have been usually bothering him, getting to know his friends or talking to some of the ladies on the Kuja island who were kinder to me than the males for some odd reason. I guess its because they don't know that many boys, they deem curious of the males yet distance themselves.

As of now, I was sitting next to Law, who was holding a Strawhat while we were listening to the chaos and destruction caused by the straw hat awakening. Honestly, it was comforting to hear the screams and destruction going on after some peaceful times.

"Hm?"

"What?"

"Why is it comforting to hear Straw Hat's screams of pain and agony as he destroys the island?"

The other members with me along with Law stared at me.

"I see why she's your childhood friend."

"Do you need help?"

"No?" I answered unsure of why they were asking that.

"I mean, maybe it's because you're a pirate?"

"Then what's that supposed to mean about us Shachi? Are we not pirates?"

"That-"

The sound of a huge splashing and fighting coming from the direction of the sea atracted our attentions towards it.

"Is that...someone fighting a sea beast?!" Penguin spoke, looking through a binocular, turning all of our attention towards the sea.

"What's going on?! Is it fighting something?"

A few more seconds and we could see the sea beast's body floating on the water, obviously dead from the wounds inflicted upon it.

"It's dead! Something just killed that thing!"

"A monster of that size?!"

"I couldn't see what it was fighting..."

"This is a terrifying ocean."

As I heard the reaction of the crew, I guess that they don't usually fight sea beasts. Since sea beast of those sizes are usually large, its easy to get hits in since most of them have slower reactions. As long as you have good agility and strength, or haki, or a lot of cannon balls, you can kill those pretty easily.

But the surprising thing about this event was not the uncultured shock of the crews being surprised at a sea king being killed but an old man climbing out of the water, in shorts with a sword hung around his pants and he was holding his clothes as he walked towards us, seeming to recognize the crew.

"Ah, I know you people, we met at Saobody."

"Dark King Rayleigh!?"

Dark King Rayleigh? As a member of the Roger's Pirates and a literal living legend!? He looks...kinder than I expected.

"Well, you see, I ran into a nasty storm out at sea, my boat sank so I had to swim the rest of the way, my body doesn't move the way it used to, I really am getting old."

"A storm?! There are no storms in the calm belt! Does that mean your boat sank outside the calm belt and upu actually swam all the way here?!" Penguin asked as the crew and I were in utter shock.
