The elevator ride seemed to take forever. When we stepped out I explained in further detail to Nick what was happening.

"Dr. Selvig read an energy surge from the Tesseract four hours ago."
"NASA didn't authorise Selvig to test phase." Nick raged.

"He wasn't testing it, he wasn't even in the room. Spontaneous advancement." I explained in further detail.
"It just turned itself on? What are the energy levels." He asked.

"Climbing. When Selvig couldn't shut it down, the order of evac was sent."
"How long to get everyone out?"
"Phil said the campus should be clear in the next half hour." I tell him.
"Well tell him to do better." Nick replied walking off making me jog back up to him while I paged Phil what Nick said in a nicer term, not wanting anyone more stressed out than they already were.

"If we can't control the Tesseract's energy, there may not be a minimum safe distance." I say to Nick when I am back by his side again and walking down more stairs as the elevator didn't go all the way down to the lowest level for safety reasons.

"I need you to make sure Phase 2 prototypes are shipped out." He tells me.
"Sir, is that really a priority right now?" I asked respectfully.
"Until such a time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on. Clear out the tech below. Every peice of Phase 2 on a truck and gone." Nick replies making me just nod and page Maria this time.

I had no idea what Phase 2 really was, I was just given some paperwork to sign stating that the chemicals and weapon art used in the phase can be treated for and won't cause long term illnesses or death unless used in the wrong hands. I had to sign it off which made me nervous but SHIELD as a whole made me nervous.

Nick and I finally enter the radiation facility housing the Tesseract, the area is cluttered with machines and people rushing to leave. As soon as we enter my eyes run around frantically looking for any sign of Clint.

"Talk to me doctor." Fury demanded.

Dr. Erik Selvig appears from behind a CMS machine, concerned. The Tesseract is glowing unusually brighter and a flare of blue shoots out from it, hitting things at random causing me to duck and gasp as one nearly hits me. I help people move out and make myself useful while listening in to the conversation.

"Director." Selvig greets.
"Is there anything we know for certain?" I ask him.
"The Tesseract is misbehaving." He replies briefly making me give him a look of disbelief.

"Is that supposed to be funny?" Nick and I ask at the same time.
"No, it's not funny at all. The Tesseract is not only active, she's... misbehaving." He continues still not really making any sense.

I mean I know his field is more physics and mine is biology and chemistry but I still studied the subject and had honours in it. It wasn't a mystery to me.

"How soon until you pull the plug?" Nick asks.
"She's an energy source. If we turn off the power, she turns it back on. If she reaches peak level..." Selvig trails off.
"We've prepared for this doctor. Harnessing energy from space." Nick replies as I walk with them to the main screen.

"We don't have the harness. Our calculations are far from complete. Now she's throwing off interference, radiation. Nothing harmful, low levels of gamma radiation." Selvig explains making me nod.

"That can be harmful. Where's my brother?" I ask.
"The Hawk? Up in his nest, as usual." Selvig replies making me look up and finally catch a glimpse of black and maroon. I sigh in relief.

"Agent Barton, report." Nick speaks into his ear piece and soon Clint rappels down from the catwalk and walks up to Fury and I. He gives me a angry look, silently demanding what on earth I am doing here to which I just ignore. The three of us walk around the bottom of the facility in a discreet manner to talk together.
