Gunner
We'd gone as soon as Leo pinged the location the email was sent from. I wasn't going to wait for the cover of night since seeing Quinn has been at the forefront of my mind. And I'm fucking glad I didn't wait any longer.
My hand absently runs through Quinn's tangled hair, my fingers stopping only when they came to a knot. We were sitting in the back seat of one of the cars I'd ordered the prospect to drive.
"Gunner?" Quinn asks her eyes suddenly fully alert as her hands frantically pat my chest like she wasn't sure if I was really here or not.
"Shhh, I'm right here. You're safe." I assure grabbing her hand and placing feather light kisses on her fingers as she relaxes back into me, her eyes fluttering closed again.
Her head leans against my shoulder making me readjust under her.
"How's she doin?" Blitz asks glancing back behind him to look at us.
"Not as good as she could be. Drive faster."
Instantly the engine revs as he presses harder onto the excelerator.
"You sure Doc is going to be able to patch her up? There's only so much ibuprofen and dry socks can do."
Blitz was right. When I had put another shirt on her, her back looked like it had been clawed. Gashes at least two inches wide and a one deep littered her back, and reopened some old scars. I should let her sleep, but I had to ask.
"Quinn." I whisper next to her ear making her stir, but not lift her head.
"What's wrong?" Her voice sounded so shakey.
"Do you want me to take you to the hospital?"
"I want to go home." She pleads.
Home. I'm not sure if she meant the compound, or if she meant going back to Nebraska. I'd see why she would want to be as far away from this town as she could get, but I'm too selfish. She needs to stay here with me. This girl, this woman, has gotten so far under my skin just the sight of her sends a thrill through me. Fuck I'd lost her for just a few days and nearly went crazy on everyone. Her leaving will be the end of me, or at least I think it will.
Bowing my head I rest my forehead gently against the crown of her head.
"We'll get you home, but first I need to know if you want to go to the hospital or see what Doc can do back at the compound."
Quinn let's out an unpleased and irritated sound before she manages to sit up, her shaking hands resting on either side of my face as she looks me straight in the eyes. She's so strong yet so fragile that it makes me want to shelter her and keep her by my side forever.
"Gunner I told you. I want to go home with you. I'm sure doc can fix me up."
"You want to go home with me? Like the compound?"
Did she just call the compound her home? A wash of uncertainty shades her face as I feel her slightly pull away. Instantly I drag her back closer to me than she originally was.
"Well I mean... umm-" Quinn wasn't meeting my eyes anymore.
"My home is always your home." At my words she stops fidgeting and look back at me again.
She looks almost relived that she wasn't making a big assumption. The first smile I'd seen from her tonight pulls at her busted up lip before she leans forward, our faces just millimeters away from each others. Searching her eyes, the certainty in those eyes made my decision for me. I wasn't going to ever pass up the opportunity to kiss her.
