Gunner
Running my hand through my hair I lean on my desk trying to figure out where to move from here. Really I know I'm just avoiding having to go explain some details to the families of my brothers. Everyone of them have lives, I know that, but they won't have them very much longer if they don't stay here.
A knock on my door has me looking up.
"Enter!" I yell.
Lain walks in with Ripper following behind him. They both take seats in the chairs placed opposite of me.
"What's up?" I ask sitting back to appear relaxed. I'm far from it.
"It's about the girl." Lain starts sparking my interest instantly.
"Quinn?" I ask already knowing who it's about.
Both of them nod. Ripper hasn't ever been one to talk to me about this type of shit, so Lain is probably running the show.
"What about her?"
"Rip and I think it would be in the clubs best interest is we booted her." He says getting to the point.
"That so?" I ask making them squirm.
"Yeah." Ripper pipes up making my eyes swing to him.
"I already promised her that she's here until we deal with these fuckers." I point out.
"Sir our girls are dying. We don't even know this chick, is her life already more than our girls?" Lain pries.
"Our club doesn't back on a promise." I explain slowly as I lean forward. "She's isn't any more important than any of those girls out there, and she'll get the same protection as them."
"She isn't one of us." Ripper growls surprising me, but I don't let it show.
"If you have a fucking problem bring it up with HR." I say slamming the small trashcan by my feet onto the desk making them look from it to me.
I glare at them until they get the hint that I don't give a shit about their opinions and that they can get the hell out of my office. I get one more stern glance from Lain as he closes the door behind him. I thought I had explained everything in church after I got back.
Cursing I stand and walk out to the bar that is now filled with families, ole ladies, and club Mama's. All eyes fall on me where I stand looking at me expectantly.
"Alright! Listen up!" I yell and any smaller conversations, even those held by the kids, silence.
"Everyone is to stay with in the fence at all times. If any of the schools, or offices you either attend or work for have problems with you guys missing send them to me." They all break into small conversations before someone yells out a question.
"Why are we here anyway?" One of the brother's siblings asks.
"Cause it's in your best interest to be." I answer not giving out any club information. They don't need to know the details. The only one who should know doesn't. I should probably talk to Quinn about the situation at hand.
"How long is this going to last?" A teenage girl asks looking up from her phone.
"As long as it has to." I respond answering a few more questions with the same vegness.
Soon after they go back to mingling and chatting. I look around not seeing the person I need to talk to. Where the hell is Quinn?
I decide to ask the last person I left her with. Doc. He's standing by the bar scowling at a woman with long brown hair whose standing across the room from him.
"Hey dumbass where is Quinn?" I ask leaning against the bar.
"What?" He asks glancing at me before turning his eyes back to the brunette.
"Quinn. Where is she?"
"Oh ahh she's in her room I think." Shaking my head I head towards the hallway avoiding conversations.
I go to open the door finding it locked. Knocking I don't get a response.
"Quinn." I say loudly. I knock on the door again, this time the door opening under my knuckles.
A sleepy looking Quinn opens the door. Her hair is messy as she rubs her eyes to squint up at me. She's so small.
"Gunner?" She asks. "What do you need?" Her voice is even sleepy.
"I need to speak with you."
She nods moving for me to enter the room. A new TV sits on the desk in front of the bed making a blue glow fill the room. Who got her a TV?
"What's up?" She asks walking back to her bed and sitting on the edge of it playing with her fingers.
"Three of my men found something a few miles away." As I start her eyes focus on me while I flick on the lamp next to the bed.
"A girl was murdered and dumped on our territory with a note meant for us." I explain.
She swallows hard before nodding for me to go on. Instead of speaking I pull the note out of my pocket and hand it to her. Quinn gasps holding her hand over her mouth as she reads it. Her eyes look at me as she shakes her head.
"They don't mean... Oh my god!" She whisper yells.
"We're not going to let anything happen-" I start but she cuts me off with a wave of her hand as she bolts to her feet.
"I need to leave. I won't be responsible for more people getting hurt." She starts to pace before going to the dresser and opening drawers. She's panicking.
"Quinn." I say but she doesn't stop. "Quinn." I try again.
Annoyed I turn her around to look at me by her shoulders. Tears are forming in her eyes as she looks at me. Why is she crying? She didn't even know the girl. Most of us didn't.
"Why are you crying?" I voice my question pulling her into my chest and holding her, as her arms clutch at my shirt under my cut.
"No more people can get hurt." She says.
"No one will." I assure her playing with her wild hair.
"You don't know that. If I just leave th-"
"You aren't leaving." I basically snap surprising myself with my tone.
"But."
"Quinn I said I'll handle it and I'm going to. In the mean time no non members are allowed in or out of our compound. Any human tie to us are staying here until I give them the green light."
She nods pulling back to look into my eyes. Whatever she sees she must like since she ducks her head into my shirt again.
"Do you have a phone?" She asks making me look down at her in question.
"Yeah... Why?" I ask hesitantly.
"I thought maybe I could call my dad." I fish my phone from my pocket and hand it to her.
She walks to the bed again and sits on it with her left leg under her. She types in number before it starts to ring. I sit next to her not knowing what to do.
"Hello?" I hear a deep voice ask into the phone.
"Dad?" Quinn asks on a slight sob.
I reach out grabbing her smaller hand and rubbing my thumb over the back of it.
"It's just good to hear your voice... No I'm fine sorta... I'm in a town called Greensville... No... Yeah... It's a long story... No you don't need to have Jack fly out here... I don't think I'll be home any time soon... Oh okay, yeah I'll talk to you later. Tell Mama I love her, and the boys to... Yeah I love you too Dad." The phone call ends before she hands me my phone back.
