Quinn

Loud banging wakes me from my pain filled sleep. I hear someone grunt out a sound of frustration before my rather warm and comfortable pillow slides out from under me. Gunner low voice rumbles out something before the sound of a little girls voice hits my ears.

"Where's Quinn?" Reese asks as I slowly make myself get off the bed and stand.

"She's resting." Gunners back is still turned to me as I hobble my way across the room towards him and Reese.

"I'm right here." I say just as Reese's little head pops out around her dads leg. When she sees me her face breaks in to a smile and she runs at me. Just before she can lung towards me Gunner grabs the back of her shirt slowing her down.

"Woah there sweetheart. Quinn isn't feeling too good. Be careful."

When he's sure she isn't going to tackle me he lets her go and I manage to bend down to give her a hug.

"I missed you." She whispers. "Gretta wouldn't play tag with me."

I can't help but smile. "Well when I'm feeling better we'll play tag, I promise."

The next morning I'm parked in a booth in the bar. My head still hurts and my back is now aching with every little move I make. The scabs that are forming on my back pull with any move so I've decided that sitting like a grandma with osteoporosis was the only option.

Im drinking a water watching Doc try to play pool against one of the prospects. Neither of them are doing great by any means, which in short means that Doc is actually winning.

Across from me sits Reese since she decided she was going to color across from me. I missed her to say the least. Even with her content and focused on an outline of Arial it was nice to just sit. It was a change from constantly sleeping, though I'm getting majorly frustrated with being held up again over an injury caused by those cultist assholes. I miss working, before all this shit I had a good job and now the person responsible for that is dead and the longer I sit with that fact the more I feel like it wasn't enough. The initial relief and giddiness has worn off over his death. I had hoped that the high would have carried on a little longer than a week.

I rub a hand down my face just as Gunner strolls through the club doors looking back at ease. He looks better since he had actual sleep. As he nears I see he has a smirk on his all too good looking face.

"What's with the look?" I ask smiling up at him as he leans down and pecks me on the lips.

"Oh, no reason." He drawls before the doors he just walked threw are tossed open with the force of a mother I knew well. She was here. "Well aside from the fact that your mom is here."

I can't help it, I give him a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek before managing to slip out of the booth around him and nearly sprint towards the woman who raised me. She was currently taking in her surroundings, looking at the bar and the worn pool tables.

"Mama!" I yell making her eyes flick to me before she's walking towards me with her arms held wide and inviting.

"Quinn!" She gasps as I'm wrapped in a tight hug only my mother can give. I wince at the pain in my back but I ignore it. The pain I could deal with, the fact that my mother was standing in front of me was more important.

I feel tears stinging my eyes as I burry my head against her neck as she runs her hand over my hair.

"You're in one piece. We were worried. You just up and left so quickly. I didn't know where you went and the police were no help. Not that we could really go to those jokes."

I just let out a relieved sigh. I felt safer than I did with Gunner and that is saying something since that man was a literal life saver. But my ma, well my ma makes me feel like I'm at home even though we don't always see eye to eye. She still loves me and I love her more than anything.

There is a throat clear making me break the hug. Gunner was standing there awkwardly looking between us with a soft smile on his face.

"Right. Mama, this is Gunner. Gunner-" I'm not even done with the introduction when my mom jerks the ever so intimidating Gunner into a bone crushing hug.

Gunners eyes widen as he looks at me shocked. He didn't look like he knew what to do with his hands. After a five count he finally relaxes in to the hug and actually hugs my mom back. She leaned up and said something to him that I could catch but he nodded like he agreed before she pulled away from him.

"Am I missin out on the hugging?" Doc saunters over and smile down at my mother. She isn't all that tall, a five four woman who was stronger than she looked. I don't mean strong mentally, I mean physically since I've seen her gut punch grown men for saying a nasty word towards one of her kids.

"I'm Gunners little brother, Quinn's best friend. You seem like you give good hugs ma'am." Doc put on his charming smile and I can't help but roll my eyes.

"I've got enough hugs for the lot." Mom says before she drags him too into a hug.

"You're a joke." Gunner shakes his head as Doc grins.

"Oh shush up. If you get a hug I sure as hell get a hug too." Doc glares at him over my moms head.

Did he just say shush up? I can't help but try not to laugh at Doc. If he thinks he needs to sensor himself around my mama then he is surely misinformed.

"Since Quinn didn't tell you guys my name, I'm Penny Blythe. I'm her mama."

"It nice to meet you. I see where your daughter gets her looks from." Gunner was being flattering.

I couldn't fight the smile from my face as my mother swooned ever so slightly. Gunner catches my eyes and winks only making the tint of my cheeks deepen.

"Quinn!" Reese was yelling at me from where she was coloring.

"What's up?" I call back putting my full attention on the child.

"I can't find my blue marker!" She was lifting her book up and checking in the booth frantically.

"I've been summoned. Don't tell them any embarrassing stories ma."

Mom gives me the look that said she couldn't make any promises as I went to help Reese with her search.

Sorry it's been awhile, I've had no motivation to actually write this story. I've been writing and rewriting things so it's been crazy in my little section of the world. I hope you managed to get through this chapter like I managed to write it.

Have a good day, or night, or whatever. :)

Also like everything else I haven't edited. Lol.
