Quinn
After Doc finally let me be and left it was just me and Gunner in the room. For some reason I'm still sitting on his lap and we haven't moved. Why haven't we moved? I fight a yawn and lose making Gunner stop rubbing my lower back.
"I should let you rest." He says quiet his voice rasping.
I nod feeling my eyes growing heavy. I go to stand but he stops me, hooking his strong arm under my knees and lifting me instead. I'm set gently onto the bed and he nods before leaving the room without a word.
As soon as the door shuts I pass out not even fighting the sleep that drags me under.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The sound of the door opening and closing, then someone quietly cursing wakes me up. I'm on my belly with my long hair hanging in my face and a cool light shining into the room. Then it hits me. Where the hell am I?
Bolting upright to a stand I cringe bouncing off my feet and back onto the bed. The events of yester flood my mind like a broken fire hydrant.
"Sorry I didn't think you would still be sleeping." Gunner says making me look up at him.
He's leaning against the wall opposite of me, just watching me watch him.
"You startled me is all." I say shyly glancing away from his dark gaze.
"I'm here to help you to the kitchen. Lex made lunch and I figured you'd want something to eat." He explains.
Lunch. Had I really slept that long.
I go to stand up but he stops me.
"Not so fast Quinn. Doc said you aren't supposed to be on your feet for at least a week."
I roll my eyes at him. It's stupid really. I have two feet that I can walk on just fine, though only with some pain.
"So how am I to get from here to the kitchen?" I ask raising an eyebrow at him.
He smirks at me before he pulls me into his arms bridal style.
"Holy." I say clutching onto his neck in surprise.
"Good you're holding on." He says winking at me before heading towards the closed door.
We walk down the hallways, through the bar and into another back room, that is set up as a kitchen. Three guys sit at the table while another cooks bacon. At the smell my stomach growls. I haven't had bacon is months.
"Who've you got here pres?" One of the guys at the table asks. He has slimmer shoulders and long dreaded hair that is free and wild, the only thing holding it back is a red white and blue bandana.
"This is Quinn." Pres, I mean Gunner says setting me in a chair.
By the look on his face he knows who I am, which means that they have already talked about me. Great.
"Quinn this is Rise."
"Nice to meet you." I say reaching up and flatting my hair a little bit.
"I'm Sims." The youngest looking guy in the room says smiling boyishly at me. He couldn't be more than eighteen.
"And I'm Smiles." The final guy at the table says, not smiling as he says it.
Oh I get it. His name is like calling a tall guy shorty or a big guy tiny. Classic.
"Here eat up... You're skin and bones." A guy I'm guessing is Lex orders setting a plate with a bacon wrapped hamburger in front of me.
I just stare at it not sure if it's real or just my mind playing tricks on me.
"You aren't one of those fancy plant eaters are you?" Lex asks looking at me with his eyebrows pinched.
I can't help it and scoff.
"No sir." I say to the older man.
"Then why aren't you eating?" He asks.
"Because I - well it's too good to be true."
He only nods tapping my shoulder and going back to the stove as Gunner takes the empty seat next to me. Another plate is set in front of him, and then I pick the burger up.
I can feel my colesteral sky rocketing, but if bacon wrapped hamburgers is what kills me I win at life. Holy hell this is good. So good I have to stop myself from moaning.
"Been awhile since you had food?" Rise asks.
"Been awhile since I had something this good." I say remembering the food I grew up on.
Every meal we had something we raised for dinner. Either a cow, or bull we sent to the packing house, or something my mama grew in her garden it was always home grown. And it was always the best food I ever had. This almost tops it, but doesn't quiet beat it out.
The guys only grunt in agreement as I finish off the burger. Not going to lie, if I had jeans on right now I would have to pop the button on them to feel comfortable. Which is sad since I used to be able to eat two burgers instead of just one.
---------------------------------------------------------
After I ate the rest of the food on the plate I tried to stand, but got a glare from Gunner who stood and grabbed my plate for me.
My mom would be pissed if she knew I was listening to a man. She was never one to take orders, and that's one thing that my father fell in love with. Huffing out a sigh I roll my shoulders glancing down at my bandaged feet.
"I can seriously walk." I say making everyone look at me.
"No." Gunner says.
I meet his eyes feeling spiteful, something I haven't felt in a while, I brace my hands on the table and push myself to a stand.
"See. I'm fine."
He glares at me trying to get me to back down.
"Quinn sit down." He growls and I just smile taking a step backwards towards the door.
"Quinn." He warns.
"You know what? It's a great day for a run!" I say fighting a smile.
I glance around quickly seeing the guys looking back and forth between us not knowing what to do.
"Don't you fucking dare." Gunner growls, and before he can stop me I sprint ignoring the stinging in my feet.
I'm almost home free when I run into someone. Oh shit. The wind is knocked out of me, and before I fall strong arms catch me. I sigh looking behind me to find Gunner glaring at me.
"See I'm fine." I try to step out of his arms, but he swings my legs up to hold me.
I look at the wall of a man who I ran into. He is serious just like Gunner, only with a scar running down the side of his face.
"I'll give you twenty bucks if you make him set me down." I plead to the man.
He looks to Gunner then back to me before shrugging.
"Well shit." I mutter looking up to a chuckling Gunner who is walking towards the hallway.
"This isn't funny." I complain.
"You don't even have twenty dollars Quinn." He reminds me.
"Gunner I swear to God set me down. I can walk. Aren't you supposed to be doing something more constructive with your life than carrying me around?"
He only shrugs shouldering the door to the room I'm staying in open.
"Don't get up or I'll know." He threatens.
"Whatever." I say pulling the blankets over me and pouting.
Childish I know.
I hear the door shut and think about the best way to get up without him knowing.
