A P R I L

... The Next  Day...

Atsumu made sure he arrived at Suzume's before she left for school. He had missed her yesterday morning, so he took this as the time to talk to her.

"Mornin' Zume-chan." He greeted when the door finally opened, and she beamed her sunshine smile at him.

"Morning Tsumi." He had to admit, the nickname was starting to grow on him, and he found that the way she said it was adorable. She looked a little tired and Atsumu couldn't help but think it was because she had trained with Suna last night.

When the two fell into step together, Atsumu found himself getting nervous. 'Why am I nervous?'

Suzume looked up into the sky, a sigh leaving her lips as she saw the grey messy sky above her, she knew it was going to rain.

"Hey, are ya mad at me?" He blurted out and Suzume looked at him like he was crazy before a small laugh left her lips.

"Why would you think that?" She looked at him genuinely wondering what could have given him that idea. 'Have I been rude to him or something?' She thought back and there wasn't a single thing she could think of.

"I texted ya over the weekend but-"

"Oh right! I'm sorry I didn't reply. Funny thing, I went to Miyagi and actually left my phone here in Hyogo on accident." She rubbed her head sheepishly with a closed eye smile and Atsumu deadpanned.

'What a dork'.

"Of course, only you would do that." Atsumu mentally face palmed. She could be pretty forgetful and he had learnt that quickly the first time she 'lost' her phone. It was in her hand the entire time.

"Did you really think I was mad at you? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." Her voice had changed considerably, into one of worry and Atsumu picked up on it.

"No, no its fine really! It's just, well... about Seki..." He trailed off and it didn't take long for Suzume to get where he was going with this.

"Oh right, so about that. Is she really your girlfriend?" The olive eyed girl questioned. It too had been on her mind for a while, but she didn't really want to be the one to bring it up.

"That's what I wanted to tell you. She isn't my girlfriend." Atsumu said being sure to speak as clearly as possible.

"Oh?" The dark haired girl raised her eyes.

"Why? Were ya jealous?" He asked as he shifted his body to face her as he smirked. She felt her cheeks heat up slightly as she quickly shifted her gaze to the ground, kicking a pebble as she kept her cool.

"No, I actually kinda knew she wasn't. I just needed to hear it from you." He looked at her confused and she decided to elaborate.

"The boys said you've never dated before..."

"Oh." He felt heat flood his cheeks and wondered if she would find that strange.

The truth is, Atsumu was a hopeless romantic who wanted to wait for the right girl. Sure, he'd done a few things here and there, but he'd never gone all the way. He's also too volleyball focused and the girls at Inarizaki piss him off. Well, with one exception of course.

"I've heard the rumours that have blown around the school. So, why do you like to put up a façade of being a player?" She asks hesitantly. She didn't think he was, but the things people had said about him around the school, she wondered why he didn't set them straight, not that she could talk of course. She never set people straight when it came to her own rumours.
