O C T O B E R
Spring Prelims was fast approaching and both Inarizaki teams had been training hard. They were stressed with everything going on, some a lot more than others.
Atsumu especially.
Suzume was getting worried about him as he was driving himself harder than he usually did.
It was Thursday and practice had just ended however, the boys had decided to stay late to train. Suzume looked at Atsumu worriedly as she checked the time. It was already 8pm.
She made her way over to her boyfriend, cheekily poking his chest and he furrowed his brows.
"Zume-chan, what was that for?" He whined as he tossed the ball between his hands.
"You shouldn't be staying so late. You've been staying too late all week-"
"Don't, Suzume." Atsumu's tone was short, and warning and she couldn't help but flinch at the use of her full name.
"I'm only trying to-"
"Help, yeah I get it. But we can't afford to slack off. Prelims are around the corner. Maybe ya should be worrying more about yer self, less about me."
"What's that supposed to mean?" The dark haired girl felt herself getting defensive.
"Do ya think yer team is working hard enough?" The accusation in his tone had her jaw dropping.
"Tsumi-"
"Just go." He turned away from her and she was left with a burning feeling in her chest. She was baffled at the fact her boyfriend had just insinuated that she was slacking off, and not working hard enough. She knew she worked hard, it's all she's ever done, and it hurt having the person she loved more than anyone accusing her.
The two had never had a 'fight' before, and so with an uncomfortable feeling, she decided to leave.
Atsumu's words finally registered, and his eyes widened. He had taken his stress out on his girlfriend and unintentionally hurt her feelings. He could see it in her eyes, he had hurt her.
"Zume-chan wait!" He turned around to go after her, but she was already gone. He sighed as he took a shaky breath.
'Fuck why did I say that!'
"Oi Tsumu! Hurry up and give me a set would ya?" His twin snapped him out of his thoughts and back to reality as he made his way over to the grey haired boy.
"Yeah, yeah."
Suzume couldn't sleep that night and decided to get up and go for a jog. Her mind was still racing with Atsumu's words and doubts were starting to settle in.
'Is he right?'
'Am I not working hard enough?'
'Should I be training more? Should I be training now?'
Being the klutz she was, she tripped on the curb of the road and tumbled over. Her right hand shot out to break her fall and she winched as she felt the metal cut into her hand.
She quickly sat up, inspecting herself for any serious injury and sighed when it was only the scrape she could see. 'Thank goodness for that' she thought. She pulled herself to her feet and looked down at her throbbing hand. A stray tear feel from her eye and landed in her palm.
All she could think about was how badly she wanted this and she felt a sense of uselessness at not working as hard as she should be. Just as she was about to head to the gym, her phone started buzzing.
