A P R I L

Suzume trained all hours of the night, and all the way until morning. This was exactly what Oikawa had been afraid of happening, which is why he told a certain someone to keep an eye out for her.

She had a shower at school and then went to her class early to catch up on some sleep. No one had seen her all morning and Suna was already getting suspicious. When the boys finally walked into class, they saw her asleep on her desk.

Suna was about to mock her for calling him lazy yesterday but stopped when Oikawa's words rung through his mind.

"Keep an eye on her training, would you? She's acting like she's fine, but I know she isn't."

The two had surprisingly managed to become friends, even though their personalities weren't exactly compatible. Most times the older boy would simply get on Suna's nerves, but he admitted the guy had some likable features.

She stirred slightly and before the green eyed boy knew it, she was awake, looking tired as ever. He remembered her saying yesterday that she was going to practice and knew this tired state was due to that.

Suna marched over to her and bent over resting his hands on her desk, a serious look on his face. Atsumu was startled by the dark haired boy's actions and looked over confused by the situation.

"Oi, how late did you train last night?" Suna asked.

"Huh?" She said sleepily and he blew through his nose.

"How late did you train last night?"

"Not long." She said rubbing her face, but the green eyed boy wasn't buying it.

"Look, I need coffee. I will be right back." She said about to get up to go to the vending machine. But Suna grabbed her wrist pulling her out of the classroom.

"Woah, what's goin' on?" The blonde questioned, but he got no response from either of them.

When they arrived at the vending machine Suna was quiet as he waited for her to choose her coffee. She looked at him sceptically, a little confused by his actions before choosing a BOSS Vanilla Latte can.

"You know, Oikawa talked to me about keeping an eye on you." He said and she froze wondering how much the chocolate haired boy had told him.

"You don't need to, I'm fine." She said genuinely.

"Mhmm?" Suna hums, eyeing the coffee in her hand she's needing to keep herself awake. The bell rings so she starts making her way back to class.

"Suzume."

"Seriously Rin, I'm okay." She said a little irritated. She had gotten so sick of Oikawa babying her and worrying, she didn't want Suna to be the same. She was seriously going to give Oikawa a tune up the next time she saw him.

Even with the coffee, she was falling asleep all through class. Suna was trying to keep her up and Atsumu was watching her worried. She had even slept through lunch after sneaking off to the library for a quiet spot.

After school marked the start of try outs, and her, alongside vice-captain Suzuya and the other third and second years, were checking out the new first years.

They were extremely impressed with the new players, but Suzume was especially intrigued by a first year known as Narumi Ruri. She played in libero, and a solid libero was something they were in fact lacking last year.

Meanwhile, Atsumu was also holding tryout's of his own. He had made captain after all, with his twin as his vice. However, the blonde continued to get distracted, staring at the dark haired ace majority of the time when he should have been worrying about his own team.

'I wonder if what Seki said bother her?' He wondered. 'Tch of course it did idiot!' He could see it written all over her face.

"Knock it off!" His twin scolded him thwacking him upside the head and Atsumu frowned turning to his brother with an angry expression.

"Ow! Stop it 'Samu!"

"Yer supposed to be focused! I thought ya said ya wanted to win this year?" The grey haired boy questioned his brother and Atsumu frowned knowing he was right.

"Of course I do."

After practice, he made his way to Suzuya, needing to talk to her.

"Is Zume-chan really okay? Because I'm finding it hard to believe." He said watching as she continued to play, alongside a first year he didn't recognise. There was a smile on her face while the first year looked at Suzume in admiration.

"I don't think so either, but look, you gotta stop coming to me to ask about her. if you want to know something, then just ask her yourself!" She huffed making Atsumu frown and chew the inside of his cheek.

...

Over the week, Suzume continued to sleep in class and building up the courage, Atsumu decided to confront her about it.

"It's fine Atsumu, you don't need to worry. Just leave me be." She stated waving him off.

He felt frustrated that she continued to push him away, but also understood why. The gap felt as if it were growing even further between them, and he was struggling to deal with it.

During lunch, Suzume ended up falling asleep on Suna with food halfway in her mouth causing the others to chuckle, while Suna sighed in annoyance.

"Why is she always so tired?" Osamu asked looking at his friends.

"She's over practicing, more than she should but she doesn't listen to anyone." Suna said flicking the dark haired girls forehead but she didn't even budge.

"She's been pushing too hard lately, especially over the break." and glares at Atsumu who nearly choked on his food.

"What? It's not my fault!" he said defensively, and the table suddenly felt tense.

"You provoked her with what you said. Of course it's your fault!" She exclaimed causing the blonde to feel guilt rise. Osamu was worried for what would happen next and put a stern hand on her shoulder.

"Zuya-"

"You can't keep blaming Atsumu for it, this is just who Suzume is. I thought you would know that better than anyone. She trains hard, too hard. It's no one's fault but her own choice." Suna said causing everyone to look at him surprised. Surprised because he was right.

They were all taken aback, not just because he was so defensive but because it was clear just how well he knew her, in fact he might know her better than any of them right now and Suzuya apologised.

"Y- your right Suna, I'm sorry." She said aiming her apology to Atsumu, but he wasn't really focused. His mind was still reeling from the fact that this was his fault, how could he forget that?

"I'm going to take her to the library so she can rest better without all the arguing." The green eyed boy said before helping Suzume up and taking her to the quieter building.
