23 || My role in the pack

The Canis Lupus, both wolf, and man were meant to be a family with one another. We gain strength through our bond with each other.

The door opened with a slight creak, the sun peeked out throughout the small half-crescent window just above the gigantic man that I am now facing. He was massive, much bigger than Lukka itself and everything about him screams power and the need for submission easily washed over me.

His skin was the color of the woods, his eyes were the same as everyones and a scar that runs down past his brows to his left cheeks. His lips were thin and I could already imagine the authority that he holds just by looking at me with those piercing, solemn eyes.

"You may seat" his voice was nothing like I expected, it was gentle but it was still firm, it doesn't expect any resistance.

I sat down at the mahogany chair, Lukka sat down as well with his eyes still trained on me which made me relax. If something happens then he can easily see it and can take me back home.

The mahogany desk draws the line, with a laptop and several papers on the side along with the small bookshelf behind, his office looks pretty minimalistic and tidy. A single small lamp was placed in the corner of the desk, a wooden pen organizer was positioned at the side. 

"So you are Selene?" I nodded, my heart picking up and he must have known it. "You don't have to be afraid, I just wanted to meet our new member"

Oh.

Wait what? New member? Does he mean-

"I'm Maico, the leader of this pack" he handed his hand and I place mine on top, I was still blankly staring at him before he continued. "Welcome to the pack Selene" his palm gripped mine as I weakly gripped his, my eyes still couldn't believe everything that has happened.

"Tha-thank you" I breathlessly replied, my heart adjusted its beating but I could still feel the emotions mixing up on me as if I rode on a roller coaster without my consciousness.

"Your welcome, well, let's go now so we can handle all the feast that Luna made!" His teeth were porcelain white as he grinned at me, I felt like I was looking at a shepherd dog goofily smiling at me.

He walks pasts us while humming a tune, his entire self vibrating with energy and I just couldn't associate him with the big terrifying alpha.

I glanced at Lukka's side, his expression was still the same but I could slightly pick up the true meaning behind his eyes. It was as if I can hear him saying 'I told you so' which made me helplessly groaned at him.

"You should've told me!" I hissed, Maico was already out of the office and there's only the two of us left.

"I already did" it's as if I could see a smirk forming into his thin lips and I glared at him.

"Yeah right, you clearly did" I snorted after a sarcastic reply. I harrumphed at him and didn't even look at him on our way to the dining room.

I saw Luna's twins giggling with each other as they began to get tickled by Maico, his bear paws like hands tickled them giving rise to bouts of laughter. Hati and Luna began to take out the dishes while Fenrir and Skoll who managed to take sight of me winked in my direction earning another growl from Lukka.

"Why are you growling?" I knew that there's a reason for a wolf to growl, it could be due to a sighting of an enemy, due to anger or sorrow.

"Yeah Lukka, why don't you tell us?" Hati sneaked up on me as her eyes twinkled in mischief, her hands placed on top of my shoulders.

I hate to say this but I am also curious as well, Lukka, on the other hand, didn't answer and turn his back on us to get something in the kitchen.

"Boo! No fun! I'll tell you instead Sele-" Fenrir shouted at Lukka and also with his quick reflexes, managed to save himself from being blind when a knife almost pierce one of his eyes.

My eyes widen in horror at the sight but the others didn't even react to it, I look back to see Lukka sharpening the knives and proceeds to just forget everything that happened.

"Come on and sit Selene!" Luna offered, Skoll with his oh so gentlemanly side pulled a chair for me while I sneered at him and masked it with a smile.

Hati and Luna were headed onto my left and right side, the twins were on Luna's side while Hati's brothers were on the other side making them face me. Lukka was seated at the right seat with Maico, his eyes swiftly make contact with mine which I ignored. I was still angry at him even though it wasn't his fault for my presumptions towards their leader.

"Now that everyone is seated, let us toast for our new member, Selene!" Maico started and raised his glass which in turn everyone copied as well as I.

"Thank you for accepting me Alpha Maico" I bowed my head to him, I've read it from the books, submission is necessary when you're meeting with an alpha especially if you're someone with no rank or lesser rank. 

"You are welcome Selene and since you have become a part of our pack, we will now decide what role is to be given to you"

Roles on the pack are commonly made so that the pack is organized and everyone has a job to do, a role that they have to do well. Alphas made the decisions, the alpha female cares for the young and rules besides the alpha. Warriors fend off enemies, hunters gather food and track down enemies while the young are being cared for and taught for so that the next generation will be much better and stronger.

"I suggest she be the messenger, the link to the human world and the werewolf community" I heard Lukka suggest, I have learned from Hati that Lukka is their top warrior and the one who teaches everyone to fight.

Luna was the mother, she was like the alpha female but without being mated to Maico. The triplets were the hunters which they earned after their enhanced and more pronounced senses such as smell and sight. The twins were the young, the next generation.

"What do you think Selene?" Their eyes went to me and I gulped before nodding.

"I agree with Lukka's recommendation"

"Then it's finished! We welcome you Selene, the messenger of this pack!" Maico boisterously announced while the rest clapped, my cheeks turning red from the attention.

"Thank you for trusting me with this role I... I promise to never speak out of your existence and to always protect nature and the pack with everything I have" I swore an oath, their claps turned louder, and even Fenrir and Skoll hoots making me giggle.

I didn't know that it was this easy to become a part of them, I even have the idea that I would exchange blood or even undergo a ceremony but everything that I expected was thrown out of the window.

Looking at their proud, smiling faces, I can now say that I have truly become a part of them.
