I felt someone pick me up off the cold ground. It was North.
"Hey buddy, we'll get you home." My vision was blurry due to blood loss.
"Alaska..." I choked out. Blood was filling my mouth.
"She's in there!" I tried to maneuver out of Norths arms."Shh quiet. We will come back for her. She says she's ok". North soothed me with his calming voice. I knew she wasn't ok but I could no longer speak. I felt my body go slack. My eyes closed. Oddly, though I could hear, I could feel, but I could not move.
"We are losing him!" Another voice yelled.
It was York. He must have gotten the hard drive. The pelican lifted off the ground at high speed, faster then when we had arrived. They were in a hurry to get me back to the base. Blood spilled down my cheek.
I tried to ask where Alaska was, but I couldn't move my mouth. A stabbing pain rippled through my body as I started convulsing. I was having a seizure. I tried to scream, cry or make any sort of noise but the more I tried, the more I hurt. Strong hands held me down.
"I wish we had Alaska here. She knows how to deal with this" I heard South mumble.
"This is hard to watch." She said.
Alaska wasn't here?! Where was she?! Was she dead?! Thoughts raced through my mind. I wanted to scream.
"That idiot," the directors voice crackled through my headset.
"We can't get her now. She can hold out. Did she sound hurt North?" The director growled.
"No sir. I'm sure she will be ok. Right now we are close to landing at the base with Washington. The mission was a success, sir." North said calmly.
But she wasn't ok. The engines slowed to a stop as we grounded at the base. North handed me over to a few medics, who rushed me to the Operating room. I felt a large needle being stuck in my arm and a few seconds later, my remaining senses faded until I could feel nothing.
I sat up with a jolt and pain tore through my torso. I lifted my shirt to see a white bandage cleanly wrapped around my stomach. North walked in.
"Nasty wound you got there bud." He ruffled my hair and smiled.
"Where's Alaska? How long has it been?" I started to panic.
"She's still at Exile. It's only been about an hour. She's probably fine." North calmly answered. Clearly he was fooled by Alaska. I stood up ignoring the pain.
"SHES NOT OK! SHE GOT SHOT IN THE LEG AND SHOULDER AND WAS IN THERE DURING THE EXPLOSION! ARE YOU ALL DUMB? SHES PROBABLY DEAD!" I screamed.
I fell to my knees and started to wail. She was dead. Gone. I was sure of it. North stood there completely shocked as other Freelancers ran in.
"I didn't kno-" I cut him off
"HOW COULD YOU FUCKING NOT KNOW!! SHE-" Maine stopped me by grabbing me by the throat and he growled.
Sigma popped up beside him.
"Maine says shut up" he simply commented and disappeared.Maine put me back in bed and held me there.
"I will go retrieve her body personally" the director had snuck up on us.
" and if she is not dead, she needs to be taught a lesson" he smiled; a deadly grin. The director disappeared into the hallway. I heard the engines rev up, and the pelican lift off. A wave of exhaustion washed over me and I fell asleep.
I awoke to a big bustle outside the infirmary. The door opened and in came a few medics, rolling someone in. This was the out patient center, this person must have came right out of an operation. Between the pillow and the sheets, I saw a lock of light strawberry-blonde hair. It was Alaska. This time, I didn't feel happy she was here. I was furious. I got up and walked over and peered over her bed. Her eyes flickered open. Something wasn't right, but I didn't care about her anymore. She smiled up at me as if she hadn't done anything. What a bitch.
"You bitch! What the hell were you thinking in your small ass brain?!" I growled.
Her smile broke. I could feel her heart crack.
"You know, I never should have met you! I never should have even helped you! You fucking whore. I wish you stayed there in exile to rot for centuries. You lying cunt!" I shouted.
Carolina ran in and grabbed me by the arms. By that time, everyone was in the room, including the director. He stood there, laughing.
"What the hell Washington!" Carolina said protectively.
I looked over at Alaska.
"Carolina...let him go" she whispered.
Tears rolled down her cheeks and onto the pillow. York grabbed her gently and walked her to her dorm. I could see the wet drops of her tears on the floor.
When Alaska was out of the room, Carolina let me go. I sat on the bed.
"You know, you fuck stick, she saved your fucking life. She pushed you out there so she could save you and kill them off by throwing a fuel canister and shooting it. She almost died for you. And now she's getting punished. The director gave her...Zeta so she could learn her lesson" Carolina said bitterly.
I gulped. Zeta. That was the A.I. Of despair. No one deserves zeta. What have I done.
