I saw Washington lunge to save me as I met locus' blow with my katana. But the energy that ran between them was too much. A blinding white light was soon followed by a loud, crackling bang. This light disappeared, leaving me dazed but not hurt. I looked around and first saw blue flames lapping at the trunks of trees. A few bushes had little flames that grew quick as the burned the foliage. My katana was ripped out of my hand at the force of the blast, but I was untouched. There was movement among the trees as I saw Felix and locus fleeing, both with pretty badly burnt armor. I turn around and see red and blue team huddled around something. Many of them had the black marks of a burn that covered some part of their armor yet no one seemed phased. I get up and jog over to see a soldier. The soldier was unrecognizable due to his armor being burnt to a crisp. As I get closer, I see the visor is shattered. I look at the Reds and blues surrounding the body as I slowly realize In horror who is missing. Washington. I was not jogging now. I was sprinting. I burst between caboose and Carolina and immediately kneel at Washingtons side. Seeing his face through the visor sent chills though my body. His eyes were wide open and he was shaking. I gently take off his helmet and cast it aside. With tender fingers, I brush the hair from his forehead. His face had burns on it, as well as a piece of glass imbedded below his eye. I take off my helmet and look at him.
"Hey, hey. It's me. Washington. Look at me" I say in a gentle voice
He slowly turns his head as his gaze locks with mine. I smile as a tear rolls down my face and I run my fingers along his cheek.
"It's going to be ok. Can you tell me what hurts?"
His eyes turn glassy and they start to fade. This is when I started to panic.
"Someone call an ev-"
Church cut me off
"It's coming. Calm down"
Washington's breaths were coming more shallow and his eyes started to droop.
"Wash stay with me!" I held in a wail of anguish and despair.
This is like getting something back and having it taken away again. Off in the distance, I see a fleet of Pelicans and I pick up wash and run towards them.
The clearing was full of tall grass that flattened when the Pelicans were landing. Memories flooded back to me from when I first started project freelancer. I jumped into one where a team of doctors was waiting. Gently, I layed Washington on the operating table."Ma'am, we must ask you to leave. This pelican is only for patients."
Fury built up in me and I lunged at the doctor. My move was anticipated by the person who knew me most, my sister. Three pairs of hands grabbed me and pulled me back and restrained me. These were the hands of Carolina, Caboose and Tucker. I look to my left to see Caboose.
"Hi!" He says.
Some of my fury melted away but was rekindled as I looked to my right to see Tucker. I just now realized his hand was on my ass. I turn around and twist his arm backwards and I stare at him, twisting slowly.
"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry" he pleaded and I let him go.
He shook out his arm and turned his back to me. No one batted an eye. A crushing sense of reality hit me just then and I started to get a little dizzy. Without a word, Carolina herded me into the pelican and we sat there in silence the rest of the trip while my thoughts tortured me.
