A couple of day later, the whole school was buzzing with excitement. Halloween. The ghosts roamed the halls laughing and chatting to passersby, me and my friends were just making out way to Professor Flitwick's class of basic spells. We laughed and joked as we made our way to the room, upon arriving we quickly took our seats. Me, Seamus, Harry, Ron and Hermione all sat on one row. Whilst Neville sat behind chatting away to some of the other students. Across the room sat Draco Malfoy and his gang of nitwits. I glared at him as he entered, having had a few incidents in the last week, concerning name calling and rumor spreading. He sneered back at me and Seamus nudged my side to draw my attention.

"He's not worth it." He whispered quietly, so not to be told off by our tiny teacher. We jumped as Flitwick began the lesson.

"One of a wizard's most rudimentary skills is levitation, or the ability to make objects fly." He quickly made a fluttering motion with his stubby fingers, to emphasis his point.

"Uh do you all have your feathers?" He asked glancing round the room, out of the corner of my eye I saw Hermione raise hers quickly. So eager to please.

"Good, now don't forget the nice wrist movement we've been practicing?" Producing his wand he held it delicately and waved it in a certain motion.

"The swish and flick." He chuckled to himself, he looked at us all, smiling.

"Everyone," I quickly retrieve my wand from my sleeve and held it in my grasp as shown. I raised it and copied the movement.

"Swish and flick." Everyone murmured, along with our professor.

"Good and enunciate. Wingardium Leviosa. Off you go then." I chuckled as my classmates began their attempts at the spell. I listened as Malfoy attempted it.

"Wingardium Levio-saa..." He said in a snooty voice, waving his wand uselessly. Along the line I heard Harry's attempt and watched as his feather rocked from side to side, but didn't lift. Seamus chanted the spell over and over but the feather reused to budge. Ron then caught my attention.

"Wingardium Leviosarr." I giggled as he shook his wand in frustration.

"Stop. Stop. Stop." Hermione interjected, placing her hand over Ron's wand. The boy halted his movement and turned to her.

"Your going to put someone's eye out. Besides your saying it wrong it's Leviosa not Leviosar." She teased, shaking her head in fake disapointment. Ron sneered at her, annoyed by her comment.

"You do it then if your so clever. Go on, go on." I could see that Ron was getting angry, but never one to step down from a challenge, Hermione picked up her wand.

"Wingardium Leviosa." She said crispy, performing a tidy swish and flick with her wrist. The feather glowed before lifting obediently into the air. Hermione smiled smugly at Ron before looking back at the rising feather. The red-haired boy dropped his head onto his book in defeat. As Professor Flitwick praised Hermione's efforts, I decided to attempt it for myself.

"Wingardium Leviosa." I said clearly, swishing my wand an flicking it down. I grinned as my feather glowed and began to float upwards joining Hermione's. I looked over to her and grinned.

"Well done Miss Grainger, Miss Lockheart." Flitwick bounced in his seat, proud of his students.

Seamus tried again.

"Wingarduim Levio-" A huge bang and puff of smoke filled the room. I coughed and tried to brush off the soot, which was settling on my shoulder.

"I think we're going to need another feather over here, Professor?" Harry said, as Seamus sat eyes wide in shock and face blackened with ash. As the class drew to a close, all of the student had managed to at least get their feather to move across the desk slightly.
