We had been traveling for around 40 minutes, Harry and I had been sitting in comfortable silence staring out the window. I was amazed at the rolling grassy hills and gurgling streams, the evergreen forests and dotted fields of animals that we passed. Seeing one field which contained a grey welsh pony and bay Shetland, my mind was captured in thoughts of Grace and I began to wonder where she was. I sighed and unwillingly drew Harry's attention.
"Everything all right?" he asked his eyes searching mine, as I tried to smile. I nodded,
"Just wondering where my
friend is." I answered, he smiled back at me, before suddenly straightening in his seat and clearing his throat.
"I'm sorry," he began, "I never formally introduced myself. My name is Harry, Harry Potter." He offered me his outstretched hand, his spectacles flashed as the sun caught them and I gasped.
I knew the story of Harry Potter, the boy who lived. I suddenly felt ashamed, how could my father have pointed his wand at something as innocent as a infant and cast a spell meant to kill? I realised I had paused longer than I meant and quickly slipped my hand into his shaking it firmly.
"Nice to meet you Harry Potter. My names Anna," I paused, "just Anna." He seemed confused for a moment, but his face softened as he decided to let it go.
"Nice to meet you Anna." after that we fell into easy conversation, I switched seats so to sit next to him as we became enthralled in the topic of animals and their possible uses, he explained how Hagrid had bought Hedwig, his owl, as a birthday present for Harry. He then asked me if I had brought an animal, just as I was about to begin telling him about Grace, the sliding door of our compartment slid open. A familiar red-headed boy stood in the doorway looking fairly sheepish.
"Excuse me, do you mind? Everywhere else is full." it was Ron from the platform who's mother help me and Harry earlier in the day. Harry replied.
"No, not at all." He gestured for Ron to sit down, smiling at the obviously timid boy. Once sat however his whole personality seem to change, he began to smile and bounced slightly in his seat. He glanced between me and Harry.
"I'm Ron, by the way. Ron Weasley." He grinned, holding his head high in pride. I giggled,
"I'm Anna, Nice to meet you Ron." I replied his smile contagious as my lips curled into a teethy grin to mirror his own. I glanced at Harry and waited for him to introduce himself.
"I'm Harry, Harry Potter." I couldn't help but laugh at the expression on my new acquaintance's face. His eyes wide and mouth agape, he seemed at a loss or words, but he soon regained the skill of speech.
"So-so it's true? I mean, do you really have the...the..." He bumbled,
"The what?" Harry coaxed his eyebrows pulling together in confusion. Ron leaned forward off his seat, glancing quickly towards the door, then at me, then back at Harry.
"Scar?" He whispered, as though saying it to loud would get him into major trouble.
"Oh yeah." Harry replied in a light tone, reaching up he swept his mop of black hair off of his face. I couldn't help but stare, the perfect angry red mark shaped like a lightening bolt on the right-hand side of his forehead. It saddened me once again, but Ron found it brilliant. Tipping back into the bench like seat of the train, his grin had returned, his eyes wide in amazement.
"Wicked." He breathed, as Harry allowed his hair to fall back into its messy style.
We were suddenly interrupted once again as the door once again slid open. I felt my eyes widen at the sight of the sweet ladened trolley, an elderly woman peered round the corner her kind eyes looked at us, all wide eyed and in shock at the sugary goodness within our grasps.
