Chapter 12

A Dracaena Steals my Moment

I was really annoyed. We got interrupted by a monster. A monster! But of course we had to go. Adrian and I got up and looked around. The roar came again, behind us. We saw a dracaena roaring everywhere. 

A bit behind, I could see a car with 5 teenagers in it who looked about our age. Adrian had drawn his bow, and tried shooting the dracaena. But I guess the monster knew better than to be in the way of a celestial bronze arrow. It dodged it easily. I saw that the car had stopped and a girl with a spear came out first. For some reason I knew they were demigods. Then I saw something that confirmed my suspicion. They were wearing Camp Jupoter t-shirts. The girl turned, and I knew who she was. She was Luna, daughter of Jupiter. She saw me at the same time and she gasped. Before I could go to her, I heard a cry from behind me. I turned around and saw Adrian on the ground, with a really bad cut on his arm.

At that moment my rage snapped. I ran towards him and dragged him on the side. Then I went to Luna, who also looked really, really angry. I knew from experience not to get on her bad side.

"Hey," I said.

"Hey," she replied, her face grim.

"Ready to finish this monster?" I asked her.

She looked at me and grinned, "As I'll ever be."

She held up her spear and summoned lightning. I raised my hand, ready to fire. Then we both blasted the dracaena of her feet. We had almost burned her. But that wouldn't kill it. Luna and I ran towards it. Her spear, and my sword. We stabbed the dracaena with such force that it disintegrated immediately.

Then I remembered something. Adrian was hurt. I ran over to where a boy was kneeling over him, attending his cuts. Adrian appeared to be unconscious.

"Let's get him somewhere," Luna said, "away from mortals."

She turned to me and said, "Do you know anywhere we could go, Jules?"

I grinned at that name.

"Yeah, there's an abandoned workshop just a minute or two away."

"All right then," Luna said, "it would be faster if we shadow traveled, rather than walking."

"But I don't know the place," a boy in black said.

"You will," Luna said, "trust me."
