I looked up and saw the last person I thought I would ever see again.

"Hi Tammy," he said as he took the seat across from me in the compartment.

"Alex, what are you doing here?" I asked as my eyes grew wider.

"My dad got transferred to England and so I also had to get transferred to Hogwarts. Last minute stuff," he said with a smile.

His dad worked for the Ministry of Magic and was stationed in France for the last five years. That's how we met. His family was always moving around Europe and he was always transferring. It was hard for him to keep up with anything. France had been his longest stay anywhere.

"And what, no letter?" I said jokingly, still surprised by his presence.

"Yea, heh, sorry," he said with a cute, apologetic face. I forgot how cute he was. "I forgot to tell you," he said as he ran his hand through his hair.

"Uh huh," I said rolling my eyes at him and slouching back into my seat. "Yea right. How have you been?" I asked.

"I've been good. I kinda missed you though," he said blushing. "It was kind of boring without you." I blushed at that.

We talked for an hour or two, until the compartment door swung open and in came an angry looking Draco.

"What the hell!" he shouted as soon as the door was fully open. "Where the fuck were you over break?!" His nostrils were flaring.

"I told you, I was spending the break with my BROTHER!" I said back as I stayed seated. Completely forgetting Alex was there for a second.

Draco winced a little and it looked like he had seriously tried to forget that part. But that look disappeared and he was mad again.

"My parents were worried about you," he said. "You didn't tell them where you were going. They specifically sent for me to come home so they could grill me about you and why I let you go without telling them."

"I was meaning to tell them, I just forgot," I said guiltily as I had completely forgotten to tell them where I was going for break.

"You know what, whatever, I shouldn't have spent the whole time worrying about you," he said as he turned on his heels and walked out, slamming the door behind him.

I sighed and looked down at my feet, feeling completely guilty for what I had neglected to do.

"Who was that?" Alex asked. "Are you in trouble with him? Is he hurting you? Do you want me to beat him up?" His face was so serious I thought he might have actually done it.

He may look cute and adorable, but he was a fighter. He never fought in school though. I dated him for three years and when I went over to his house one summer, I got picked on by this big scary guy and he kicked his butt for me.

I laughed. "No it's okay," I said trying for a reassuring tone, apparently it didn't work.

"Are you sure?" he said. "Because Tammy, you know I will always protect you, no matter what."

When he said that I felt myself go warm. I knew I was blushing just like he was when he realized what he had said.

"Tammy," he said. "Why did we break up?" he asked as he looked at me with big, sad eyes.

"I-I have no idea," I admitted quietly as I looked away from him.

"I thought you were happy with me," he said, his face growing sad and depressed.

"I-I was, but I had to move, and you know I don't believe in long distance relationships," I said trying not to choke up on the lump that suddenly formed in my throat.

I sat next to him and I hugged him. He hugged me back.

"Well we're going to the same school now," he started as he looked at me, his face so close to mine. "Would you go out with me.... again?"

I couldn't resist, I didn't know what I was thinking. Maybe it was to spite Draco or maybe it was because I actually really wanted to.

"Yes."

He hugged me then he kissed me. I had forgotten how sweet and gentle his lips were against mine.

And through it all, I failed to notice that Draco was paler than usual and he looked so broken. And that he was standing outside the door looking at us. Debating on whether to kill Alex, or kill himself.
