the gravel crunched beneath us as the car drove towards the huge castle-like building soon to come before us. it was nothing short of what you'd expect a boarding school to look like. grand, old and like it could fall apart any second.

maggie's hands were on ten and two, clutching the wheel tightly. i could tell that she was nervous by the way that she was sitting stiffly in her seat, her lips pursed and her back slightly hunched.

i was scarce in movement myself, not moving so much as a muscle on the whole ride. we could have taken a plane ride, that shit would have been quicker. my mom was scared that i'd bolt at the airport though, so she packed me up in the car and dragged me across the country for two days.

she was right in doing that, as i would have definitely bolted had she taken me to an airport. i'd have ran off and never saw her ass again and i would have been perfectly fine with it.

after the car crawled for a little longer we were finally in front of the school. it screamed ancient and it was isolated, there was nothing but nature for a mile or so.

"billie-"

"don't talk." i cut her off. "you chose to send me here, so see that shit through. i don't need you holding my hand, nor do i need you sending me shit, calling me or visiting me. just let me serve my time in peace. alone."

i grabbed my duffle bag and opened the door, pulling myself out of the car and slamming the door shut behind me. i didn't bother looking behind me and seeing her distraught face, i didn't want to see the remorse in her eyes as she watched me walk away. she didn't deserve for me to look at her and feel bad, to regret my decisions.

because i don't. and i never will.

i walked down the concrete pathway and up seven stairs, turning the handle of the antique looking front door, pulling it open and walking inside.

i was able to get a quick glance around, it was a neat and tidy place, a couple of kids walking by as some women behind the front desk gossiped. a woman instantly appeared in front of me and it took me by surprise so i stepped back a bit.

"hi! i haven't seen you around here before, you must be one of our new students?"

i cringed at her overly enthusiastic tone but nevertheless nodded my head.
