i fluffed my hair this way and that as i observed myself in the mirror. i was never one to stress over how my hair looked, but i was very particular about my hair matching the way that i wanted to present myself that day. i had on a white tank top and black sweats, and i couldn't decide which looked better with the outfit: a side part, a middle part, or a messy bun.
after a few more minutes of getting lost in the mirror, i finally ran a hand through my hair one last time and decided that however it settled was going to be how i wore it for the day.
xyla had left the room a while earlier to shower and get some breakfast. we were actually going to attend our classes today instead of skipping them, but that plan was null and void when we remembered that our first period was study hall. nobody actually goes to that shit.
of course, i was gonna do what i always did when i didn't have shit to do. see jahseh.
and the rest of my friends, of course.
i adjusted the cuban link-choker that was tight on my neck, making sure that my appearance in the mirror was nice. i was wearing black forces today, per usual, to match my black outfit.
i left my dorm and stuffed my hands in my pockets, sweeping the hall to see if i could pick up on the vibe of our hall this morning.
everybody seemed lively and cheerful. a couple of girls stood in front of their dorms and gossipped, while a group of kids huddle together on the floor, drew on a large poster, for what i assumed was an art class project.
when i reached jahseh's dorm, i raised my hand to knock, but the door swung open, revealing aiko stood.
"great, i was just coming to come get you," he said.
i furrowed my eyebrows. "coming to get me for what?"
"come in," he said, opening the door wider and allowing me in. i stepped inside and heard aiko close the door behind me.
since jahseh didn't have a roommate and only had one bed in his room, his dorm had more space than most. it never felt crowded in here and it could fit our entire band of misfits with no problem.
and i guess, whoever this stranger was that was currently shacking it up with jahseh.
the girl was my height and her pale arms were splattered with small tattoos. her silky black hair damn near touched her ass, and was covered by a white beanie. she was wearing a white cropped tank top and black sweats, her little feet in white slides.
all i could think about was how eerily similar our outfits were. i couldn't lie about how much it bothered me.
when i finally got a good look at her face, i couldn't lie, i was stunned.
she was asian, with a soft round nose, and long lashes that guarded her almond shaped eyes. the girl's teeth shone as she spoke, showing off a rainbow of teeth gems that fitted her perfectly and made my skin tingle.
suddenly their conversation stopped as jahseh's eyes locked with mine, and he grinned.
"hey bunny, i got a little surprise for you." he held his hand out and gestured to the girl standing beside him. she stuffed her hands in her pockets and sized me up. i could already tell that we were more similar than i was comfortable with, just based on her mannerisms and the way she dressed. "this is umiko, and she lives in our sector now. her room is right next to mine."
