"attention, students, we are holding a mandatory assembly in the auditorium. please report to the auditorium now as the assembly will start in five minutes. again, the assembly is mandatory and it begins in five minutes."
the intercom clicked after ms. berry finished talking, and i rolled my eyes. i was looking forward to sleeping in and skipping my first two classes, but now i'd have to attend some assembly about some bullshit that most likely didn't even matter.
i peeled my covers back and sat up straight, running a hand through my hair. as much as i would love to completely disregard ms. berry's orders, i don't wanna risk getting caught in my room. usually if a mandatory assembly is called, security guards rake the dorms to make sure that everyone attends. if they catch you, they'll raid your room and take contraband just to be assholes. there aren't any rules against having things from the outside, but they'll take the sit from you to prove a point. that's the only way they can enforce their rules, anyway.
i engage in my hygienic tasks and throw on a t-shirt, swapping the shorts i slept in with gray joggers, pulling on socks and stuffing my feet into slides. for once i wasn't worried about appearance, all i was worried about was going to this assembly and bringing my ass back to get some sleep.
i didn't have a roommate so i had the whole room to myself, which i was thankful for. everyone had to learn the hard way that i didn't need nor want a roommate. the guy i shared my dorm with when i first arrived? he was messy as hell and i wasn't fucking with it, so we had a very violent disagreement.
he isn't my roommate anymore, obviously.
i also requested that he be moved to a completely different sector, i couldn't walk through my hall every day and see his face, it would aggravate me. the dean complied because she didn't want me getting into any more unnecessary fights.
that certainly didn't last long.
i walked out of my dorm and followed the sea of kids heading in the direction of the auditorium. amongst everyone i could quickly spot billie's blue hair, she was never hard to find. my eyes trailed down to her face, which was making an annoyed expression as her mouth moved quickly, uttering words to the girl beside her.
xyla peters, she'd gotten thrown in here for petty bullshit but she quickly settled in and kind of blended in. she never made waves and was neutral, she could fuck with anyone and managed not to end up in any drama. i admired her for being humble and down to earth, she looked like she kept peaceful company. perfect for billie, as she was sure to start a fire over anything and needed someone to mellow her out.
