I almost screamed when I got to the coffee shop. Everybody was unconscious, their bodies slumped on the ground or their face in their food. The only person awake was Jacob, who was casually sipping coffee in a corner. "No way," I whispered. "Blaine was right."
"Hey there, Amulet." Jacob smirks. "How was your day?"
"Good," I say through clenched teeth. "Until you decided to be an evil asshole."
Jacob chuckles. "Come on now, take a seat."
"I'd much rather stand." Jacob sighs.
"Fine then." He waves his hand and I'm suddenly tied down to one of the uncomfortable wooden chairs. I wiggle my wrist behind my back but it's no use; the ropes are far too tight.
"Now, I could easily kill you right now-""But you won't." I cut him off. "You won't kill me because you need me for some stupid cliché villain plan, so you won't and can't kill me." I continue. "You're probably just a pawn, taking orders from somebody. You're big boss man. If you killed me or hurt me you would get in trouble."
Jacob nods. "You're smarter than I thought."
I scoff. "It's easy to figure out. This is how books and movies go. So, instead of wasting my time how about you let me go and we can go battle to the death a different time, yeah?"
"No can do. See, I need you for something. And if the only way I can get it is with force, than so be it. But the original plan is to get you to join us. You could rule the world side by side with him. You could be so powerful if you come with us," As he continues to rant on, I start thinking of ways I can get escape, when finally I think of something so obvious that I mentally roll my eyes.
I ignite a small flame on my finger tips and starts burning the rope around my wrist. The rope comes loose and I flex my wrist, and the bonds fall to ground quietly. He's not looking in my direction as he rants, so I quickly stand and extend my hand, palm open. He flies across the room and into the ordering line, and falls limp against the ground. He wasn't unconscious though; I could hear him chuckling.
"You should not have done that." Back to clichés are we? But pain prickles through my body and I fall to my knees as I hear a crackling noise. He just shocked me.
"Shocking isn't it?" Jacob laughs at his bad joke. The shock didn't hurt as much as he was probably intending because I was soon back on my feet. A ball of fire shoots in his direction, and I keep going. "Let this be a warning, Amulet," Jacob starts. "You'll join us one way or another, or everything and everyone you love will die." And he vanishes, the last whirl of fire scorching the wall that he was in front of.
"He what?" Blaine shouts as I finish my story. "I told you he was bad! But no, you had to be a teenage girl!"
"Sorry! Sorry that I thought I could be a normal girl for once!"
Blaine's expression softens as Sam speaks. "Normal is for losers. You're unique, be proud."
I sigh. "Okay. I'm going to my room." They whisper to each other as I climb up the stairs, in audible for me. I pull out my journal from my desk drawer, and take a seat, grabbing a black engraved pen.

Gottogo,
Amulet.I sighed as I closed the journal, leaning back into my chair. Everything suddenly caught up to me. Dead parents, Jeremy, Blaine, Jacob, the chaos team. Its too much. My breathing sped up and an aching pain soared to my chest. "Sam!" I screamed, straining my voice. I heard his feet pound down the hall, and I fell off my chair, struggling for breath. "Sam!" I called again. My door flew open and I felt warm arms embrace me. "Slow your breaths, inhale, exhale. There you go." He comforted. Slowly, I calmed. Tears streamed down my cheeks, heavy sobs racking through me."It's okay. You're okay." My eyes felt heavy, and I felt the world disappear as I fell asleep.
The warm comfort of my bed welcomed me as I woke up. I turned over and saw Sam laying in the other half of the bed. I gently shook him. "Sam? Wake up."
He groggily woke up.
"Hey, Am. You okay?""I think so. How long have I been asleep?"
He checked my clock that was ticking on my wall. "Two, three hours maybe? It's seven thirty. I stuck around in case anything happened."I groaned. "The worst part is that I won't be able to sleep until three am."
"Yeah, probably." He grinned.
"What day is it?"
"Sunday. Saturday? I don't know, some day of the weekend."
I fiddled over on my bed side table, grabbing my phone off it. "It's Sunday." I confirm, then groaning. "Ugh, there is school tomorrow."
"Screw that. We should skip."
"I can't. I've skipped far too much. I'm going to be like Elena from The Vampire Diaries.
"Elena is cool."
"But she's a human. And her boyfriend is a vampire."
"You're boyfriend has magical powers. That counts right?"
I gave him a weird look. "I don't have a boyfriend."
"Blaine. Isn't he your boyfriend?"
I laughed loudly and threw a pillow at him. "No! He is not my boyfriend. Until like, a week ago he was just a dude who talked to me in my dreams."
Sam shrugged. "You guys would be a cute couple."
"Screw you."
"Whatever. I'm going to make food. I'll call you when it's ready."
"Okay." I roll over and grab a book from the bookshelf that was on the wall next to me. I read the title. "To Kill a Mockingbird. I haven't read you in forever." I read for about an hour when I heard Sam call me down.
I ran down the stairs, being extremely hungry. But what I found instead was so much worse.
