Ah, the joy of almost being crushed. Kai and I dived out of the way as debris and rocks fell upon us, one of the edges grazing my leg.  The boys in the other rooms immediately came rushing out, weapons in hand as Kai grabbed my arm. "Amulet, you need to go find Blaine. He should still be here. Go!" With a moments hesitation I ran off with a slight limp. Someone was chasing me. I could hear their not-so graceful footsteps. Blaine was calling out my name, but I couldn't pin a location. "Amulet? Amulet where are you? Amu-" His voice cut off, somewhere between shocked and afraid. My pace sped up and ignored the dull ache in my leg.

I turned left down a hallway. "Blaine?" I heard a groan. I turned a right and there he was. He had a small cut on his left cheek, and a large gash on his left arm. The one that stood out the most was the cut that extended from his right eyebrow down to the corner of his mouth. Most of the blood had dried but it looked pretty nasty. I grimaced. "Oh." I say. I quickly jog over to him to look at his wounds. "You'll be fine," I confirm. "But we need to get out of here, then I can bandage them and stuff. You can run right?"

"Do my legs look cut to you?" He raises an eyebrow, well, his non-wounded one.

"Damn, okay. Let's go." We take off sprinting and as soon as we get to the large cavern, I skid to a stop. It was a disaster. The boys were being overwhelmed, as there were only so many and the invaders easily outnumbered us. Some were human, others... not so much. Some of them had wings and talons, where others were fierce-bird-type things. The wings dripped with blood and some parts of their skin were transparent. "What the hell..." I mutter. "We have to help them." I say, quickly grabbing the daggers.

"Amulet, no. We can't. I'm almost positive that Kai told you to leave. They want you, and if you stay then they will most definitely get you. We're leaving, now." He tugs on my arm and suddenly we disappear. It was dark and cold for a moment and then I feel a rush of air. My feet hit solid pavement and I gasp for air. "What was that!" I snap, completely ignoring the fact that we somehow got out of the cavern in a blink-well, five blinks- of an eye. "We had to stay! We had to help them!" I shout. "We can't leave them!" I start pounding on his chest and struggling. "Let me go! I have to help them!" As soon as I start hitting harder he grabs my wrists in a firm hold.
"Are you done?" He stares at me and I breathe heavily and nod once, trying not to cry. I shouldn't be. It's not me who is fighting to the death. But alas, the tears well up, and spill. He pulls me in a tight embrace, one hand on the back of my head and one my back as I cry into his chest. "Listen to me," he starts once we pull away, using his finger to turn my face to him. "They will be fine. Alright? They'll be fine." He stares intently at my eyes, to the point where I turn away and my cheeks tint pink. That's embarrassing.

He turns me to him again and gently presses his lips to mine, it was short and light and it made me tingle. Then he grabbed my wrist and tugged me along. "Come on, we've got to get to the safe house." He says as if nothing happened.

Is it normal to be flipping out over a kiss? Please tell me it's normal. He was Blaine, he is sixteen years old, we had just ran away from death, and it was my first kiss.

It's normal, right?

The safe house, which we had to walk/run half way there, then take a taxi for a bit, then walk again, wasn't what I was expecting.
Honestly, I was expecting something like a cabin thing sort of like in Spy Kids, where we had to say our names to get in and stuff but actually it was huge. And underground.

My first thought? Oh.

The walls were marble and the floor was concrete, but it was styled so it somehow looked like wood. "How the hell?" I say, kicking at the floor. Blaine wiggled his fingers.

"Magic." I rolled my eyes. No kidding, I thought. I stomped my foot hard enough and the glamour faded away. It was just normal concrete now.

"Awe," Blaine pouted, "You're no fun."

"Ouch." I mocked. I quickly remembered his wounds and asked where the washroom was.

"Down the hall, to the left, and second door on your right." He said. I grabbed his arm and dragged him along, where I told him to sit on the sink and, "Stay." I looked around for a moment, rummaging through the cabinet. "Aha!" I said and pulled out the medical kit. I grabbed the disinfectant wipes and the bandages. And then I rolled my eyes and said, "Take off your shirt." He smirked.

"You would like that wouldn't you?"

"Would you rather me rip off the sleeve?" He did as I told, and I cleaned the wound, quickly bandaging it. Luckily, it didn't need stitches as it wasn't that deep, but it would take a good while to heal. I rolled up his pant leg and did the same. Then there was the nasty gash on his face. I swiped the wipe across his wounded. He flinched and I quickly retracted my arm. "You okay?" I asked after a moment. "Yeah." He said. "Just peachy."

"Good," I respond. "Because you need stitches."

I found the mini kit. "Alright. I don't mean too freak you out but this will hurt a bit." He rolled his eyes. "Reassuring, thanks." I cringed too though as I pulled the needle through his skin. I finished them off and he thanked me.

I nodded and walked off. "Wheres the closest bedroom? Do we keep clothes stocked here?" He shouted after me, "Wait just a moment. You're hurt too." I looked down at my leg. Oh. I may have forgotten a tiny detail. "Oh." I said.

"Your turn." He said picking me up and placing me on the sink. He pulled up the leg of my tights and attended to my wound. "There. Almost, but not really, good as new." He grinned.

He stood in between my legs and looked down at me. "You're really short." He cheekily joked.

"Or you're just freakishly tall. And you're older than me so there's also that."

"Excuses, excuses," He chuckled. "Come on, I'll give you a tour. And by tour, I'll show you the main things. Bedrooms and kitchen."

After snacking on some beef jerky and fruits, I walked over to my, well the room I claimed as mine, and sat on the bed. I noticed the closet space and found some clothes. There were a little to big but I settled on a baggy t-shirt and some shorts. I sighed and thought about all the boys that could have died today. "Penny for your thoughts?" Blaine appeared in my doorway.

"It's the boys. How many do you think died?" Blaine grinned at me.

"Kai contacted me just now. He said that most of the boys are okay with some minor injuries. They're more injured than dead."

"What about the attackers?"

"Nothing. Apparently a few minutes after they found out we disappeared they retreated."

"Aw, would you look at that. I'm a killer attraction." I smiled sarcastically. "Well, goodnight."

"Goodnight, Amulet." He whispers before closing the door behind him.

I snuggle in the bed with the covers pulled over my head and slowly my eyes shut.
