"And so we meet again." Jacob smirks in front of me. Laying on the floor, Sam was frozen in place. Literally. He looked like he was about to run up the stairs to get me, but Jacob probably got him.
"It's too early to see your face again." I sigh, preparing myself for another attack. "What did you do to my brother?"
"Oh, he's your brother! I thought he was your boyfriend." I resist the urge to gag at his words and huff angrily.
"Why are you here? What spell did you use on him?"
"Oh you know, just thought I would visit my favorite Elementalist." Elementalist? Maybe that's what we were called, people with our powers. "And don't worry, Amulet. He'll be fine - if you cooperate."
"Don't you dare hurt him." I growl, a ball of fire appearing in my hand. It was a dim, small fire, but it was still fire.
Jacob chuckles at my action, "Calm down. We don't want any of that." But I don't listen. I launch the fire at him, taking him by suprise I lung towards Sam, pushing Jacob back more with an invisible force. I touch Sam's shoulder and his eyes refocus. Jacob was slowly gaining back his energy from my attack so I rushed Sam up.
"Sam get up, go upstairs. Now." He slowly stands up, finding Jacob in his surroundings and he reluctantly runs off, giving me one last look. A look saying "Be careful, if you get hurt I'll have to murder you." And then he's gone, rushed up the stairs into his room. By now, Jacob has stood up and stalked over to me. As I was about to launch another attack at him, he grabbed my wrist and slowly twisted in. I cried out and struggled to break free. With my leg, I knee him where it hurts and use my other arm to hit him in the face, the contact stinging my skin. I shake it off and switch the situation around. I pull his arm around his back and twist it, using his pain to free my own wrist. He falls to his knees (again, like seriously bro?) and I push him over, stumbling back a bit from my own force.
"Stop trying to attack me, Jacob. You've been beaten twice and I've barely ended up with a scratch. Just leave me alone. I won't end up "joining" you."
He laughs. "That's what you think." And once again, he vanishes, retreating to who knows where. Looking back towards the wall he crashed in, there was a small dent and some of the marble has chipped and fallen to the ground. I turn around and run up the stairs, towards Sam's room. "Hey." He greets quietly. "That was Jacob right? He seems like a real ass."
I smile. "Yeah. He kind of is. Are you okay?"
"I should be asking you that." He frowns.
"You're the one who got frozen. That wasn't like, ice was it?"
"I don't think so, I think I was sort of frozen in time or some magic like that." He pauses. "Amulet- Amulet what have you gotten yourself into?"
"Life. I got myself into life when I decided to go to school and make friends and trust people. Maybe it would've been better if I wasn't so bratty and stubborn and selfish and stayed home. Maybe mom and dad would still be alive and I wouldn't have to deal with Chaos. Literal Chaos."
"You don't really blame yourself for their death do you? That's unfair for you."
"Life isn't a fair place. We get what we need to survive and deal with it. Wishes don't come true."
"Sure they do," Sam grins. "Why else would people make the thing of shooting stars and four leaf clovers or- or witch craft, Like Harry Potter."
"Because some people are ignorant. They choose too believe that there is good in the world to block out all the evil. I guess thats where that saying comes from. The one thats like, 'ignorance is bliss.'"
"You are really negative."
"From the negativity that surrounds my life."
Sam leans over and hugs me. "It'll be fine. How do we know that this chaos thing is real? Maybe this is just a bad dream. Maybe this is just some stupid prank. Maybe you're powerful enough to just wipe out this stupid Chaos person."
"Maybe Blaine is just an imaginary friend.." I trail off.
"Do you actually like Blaine? As in like, more than a friend?"
"I don't know." I sigh, flopping down on my back and out of Sam's hug. "Wait, speaking of negativity- where's Jeremy?"
"Taking over dads position. He'll be home tomorrow."
"Okay."
"Okay."
"I'm going to got to sleep. Goodnight, Sam."
"Goodnight, Amulet."
I walk over to my room, closing Sam's door behind me and I crawl under the covers, not even bothering with pajamas. Shutting my eyes I slowly fall into a peaceful sleep, not one dream or nightmare taking over my mind.
I wake up to Sam shaking me. "Get up. Or I swear to God that I'll pour cold water on you."
"Please don't," I grumble. "I'll be up in a minute." He leaves the room and I walk towards my bathroom, grabbing my brush and running it through my hair, getting rid of all knots.
"Sam?" I call. "We ready?"
"Yeah. Let's go."
We get to school earlier than usual. Not many people were there, only a few people who were hanging out in the chilly air and some kids that I'm pretty sure didn't go to this school. I gave Sam a look but he simply shrugged. "It happens a lot. During the mornings kids from the elementary and middle schools come over here to hang out with their older siblings and see what it's like here." He explains. I just nod and walk inside. "Hey, wait up!" Sam calls. "We still have like, almost an hour until the bell rings."
"Why'd you bring us here so early." I groan.
"I didn't look at the clock."
"I could still be sleeping."
"I didn't look at the clock."
"I could've had breakfast."
"I didn't look at the clock!" Sam shouts, and I jump.
"You know, shouting isn't nice." A voice says.
Hey everyone. Sorry for the late update. I don't actually have an excuse this time. Unless laziness counts as one, hehe.... (Scratches neck nervously) So! Chapter nine of the newly titled book, Isolated and I have to say this isn't the worst chapter but it is very short, so I apologise. I just have some writers block and I can't get my ideas together. I'm working on plenty of books that I haven't published yet and those are screwing me up.
Um, also, if you have any ideas for the cast let me know. I know I already have people down but I don't know if they are a good choice. Anyways, thanks for reading! See you next chapter (This is going to take a while, bear with me) Bye!
