Lilliana Morst
After some "getting to know each other" that I didn't know Tey and I needed, I was getting a little bit excited about the "not a date" planned for four tomorrow. It was going to be Saturday and I'd be free from class work (even though Sara and I had agreed to meet up to discuss what I'd need to buy since Tey didn't have anything to do with that), and I'd finally get a chance to breathe.
It was like...this whole semester I had been holding my breath and focusing on school so hard that I damn near disassociated. Then Tey (she told me I could call her that) came into the picture and was my gulp of air. The color to my bleak picture, the shadowing to my wannabe 3D character, the toothy smile to my Nirvana shirt.
I fell asleep with my hair oiled and wrapped up, my body soft and my face cleansed. I was definitely getting up at 2 to get ready, I can't afford to be looking crusty for my date. I mentally cursed. But I have to meet Sara at twelve. Well, I'd just come back here and shower after me and Sara meet up for me and Tey's "not date".
I laid my head against my pillow and closed my eyes. Could things really be looking up after all of these months?
When I woke up it was storming like hell and the lights were out. My stomach was grumbling from my meager dinner last night, and the dorm was slightly warm. I slowly rose myself up, my body clinging to the thin sheets. I took my phone off the charger and checked the battery. Damn, 52%. The lights must've been out all night.
I looked up the website for the local news station and saw that all events and classes were closed today on campus because of heavy flooding in Christiano. I held my phone as the news station recording talked to me about the weather on the website. I went to look out the window in some underwear and an old undershirt that showed off my hard nipples.
The water looked to be about three or four inches high outside. For all I know, it could have been up to 20 inches while I had been asleep, at one point. As I eyed the cars towards the other end of the lot that sort of dipped down, I was grateful that my car was no more. Those vehicles looked like they had taken in some water.
I sighed, growing less excited about attending this school. If the town did this just during a pretty bad series of storms, the water would be over roofs during an actual hurricane. Ain't no swimming through that when it's raging.
I went and sat on my bed, turning off the report. I checked in with Tey to see if she had taken in any water. I knew her house was further out in town and she was on the countryside all alone for a few good miles. If push come the shove, I'd go and rescue her ass like she rescued me. I owed her that.
I bit at my lip, waiting for her response as my phone told me she was typing.
I'm fine, her text read. I was relieved but suggested that we reschedule our date. I mean..."not date". I'd rather not be caught out at night when the rain could pick up and we could accidentally drive through flood zones we couldn't see. Sara and I would communicate over FaceTime or through texts even though it would have been good to see a friend and just hang out.
And to preserve my battery.
I checked in with Sara too, and a few other associates, then notified my mom about everything that was going on down here.
She told me to stay safe and "Turn Around, Don't Drown" if I absolutely had to drive.
I decided to shower now before I couldn't see shit when it gets darker outside since I'd be staying in for the day. I minimized usage of my phone and prepared myself for the possible chance of the waters rising. I had been through many tropical depressions, bad storms, tornado warnings, and hurricanes before.
