Seas of neon and fluorescent
Glow through windows and flood the pavement.
In urban darkness, they brightly shine
From street lamps and billboard signs.Below the celestial tapestry
Lies the restless, sleepless city.
For some, life has only just begun
After hours of blinding sun.Noise pervades the concrete jungle
Waves of chatter as crowds mix and mingle
Music booming from bustling bars
Honks and roars from buses and cars.Yet somewhere in this metropolis
Lies a place of silent bliss
At the corner of an empty road
Is the solitary man's abode.Up high through his apartment window
He sees life pass through the street below.
Every night plays out like the last;
The present mirroring the past.The same old youth in threes or fours
Would stroll towards the convenience store
And chat and laugh over drinks and snacks
Then leave early morning to later come back.Then came those who were much older
From workplaces, they would drive or saunter
After office hours, to their homes
Listless from working to the bone.An eerie silence would fill the air
Until a car would zoom past there.
The only sounds heard in the dark
Were cats' meows, birds' chirps, and dogs' barks.Though sometimes there would be pitter patter
As the sky would shower droplets of water
Forming stagnant puddles on the road and walkway
Only to vanish the very next day.Every night such things would occur;
The same things during the same hours.
The next thing he knew, the night has gone
And given way to a brand new dawn.
