Everyone was in the great hall, I was sitting at my own table eating the sweets there all alone. Because Cedric is dead. And I have no Hufflepuff friends to sit with.

"Luna's going to be happy. There is pudding, and lot's of it." I say out loud speaking to myself. Some boy is looking at me weirdly so I look back at him.

"Mind your business," I tell him, he then looks back towards his sweets. And starts eating. I'm interrupted with Dumbledore starting his speech. Like he does every year.

"Good evening, children. Now, we have two changes in staffing this year. We're pleased to welcome back Professor Grubbly-Plank... who'll be taking Care of Magical Creatures... while Professor Hagrid is on temporary leave. We also wish to welcome our new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher... Professor Dolores Umbridge. And I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing the professor good luck."

He points over to her, and she smiles.

He continues to talk before she cuts him off, by standing up and walking over to Dumbledore. She's covered from head to toe in pink. I like pink but not that much.

"Thank you, headmaster, for those kind words of welcome. And how lovely to see all your bright... happy faces smiling up at me. I'm sure we're all going to be very good friends."

Absolutely no one was smiling at her.

"The Ministry of Magic has always considered... the education of young witches and wizards to be of vital importance. Although each headmaster... has brought something new to this historic school... progress for the sake of progress must be discouraged."

"Let us preserve what must be preserved... perfect what can be perfected... and prune practices that ought to be prohibited." She then giggles and walks off towards her chair. Dumbledore starts clapping for her, causing everyone to start clapping.

"Thank you, Professor Umbridge. That really was most illuminating." He says, I block out his other words. Trying to understand what's happening. It makes no sense. Before I hear Dumbledore say.

"Magic is forbidden in the corridors..."

Looks like the ministry is interfering with Hogwarts.

---------------

It's now my first DADA class with the new professor. I'm sitting next to Hermione while we both chat. One of the Patil twins set off a paper bird, and it's flying around the room. Everyone watching it fly around.

It's flying around for a good while. Before it's burnt and falling back onto Patil twins desk. Professor Umbridge did it, she's standing there smiling with her wand in her hand. Everyone quiets down after that.

"Good morning, children. Ordinary Wizarding Level examinations. O-W-Ls. More commonly known as OWLs. Study hard and you will be rewarded. Fail to do so, and the consequences may be severe."

She then hit her wand, and the books on the desk come floating to everyone.

"Your previous instruction in this subject has been disturbingly uneven. But you'll be pleased to know, from now on... you will be following a carefully structured, Ministry-approved... course of defensive magic."

I look at the book and start to go through it. How could we ever learn to defend ourselves from this book? It's complete rubbish.

Hermione raises her hand and Professor Umbridge points to her hand and asks. "Yes?"

"There's nothing in here about using defensive spells?" Hermione asks her.

"Using spells?" She says back to Hermione. Laughing while saying it, she comes closer to our shared desk and says.
