The thick and soupy Jacksonville air sticks to Sam's skin as she makes her way to the Daily's Place arena. Today is the day! After much deliberation and weeks of auditions with AEW's creative team, Sam is finally ready to sign with the company of her dream. The young star arrives at the arena early, her eagerness getting the better of her. She flashes her badge at the security gate and is let in by the hulking guards at the gate.
"Hello? Tony?" Sam knocks twice on the office door of one, Tony Khan.
Her voice caught in her throat, Sam awaits a response from the other side of the door. She doesn't have to wait long when a voice sounds from the other side of the door.
"Come in!" The soft voice shouts from inside the office.
Sam takes a deep breath to calm herself and turns the knob on the door. She steps inside and closes it behind her, offering her one last chance to compose herself.
"Sam! Great to see you again." Tony greets her as she turns around into the office.
"Tony, yeah nice to see you too." Sam nods. A hint of nervousness in her voice.
"Go ahead and take a seat." Tony gestures to the empty chair next to him. "And please, don't be nervous." He assures her.
"Right." Sam nods and takes a seat in the empty chair.
Tony sits with a vanilla folder filled to the brim with papers in front of him. Sam's heart beats hard against her chest at the sight of it. Her whole future is inside that folder.
"Okay." Tony taps the folder before he pulls it open. "The board and I have reviewed your auditions taps as well as your resume. Plus your family heritage also had a significant pull on our decision. But, congratulations Sam. AEW would love to have you." He flashes a grin at Sam.
"Oh my gosh? Really? Like this is for real?" Sam takes a moment to soak in Khan's words.
"Yes! Very real." Tony nods, his wide grin still present. "This is our standard two-year contract." He slides the papers at the top of the folder her way.
Sam nods and glances over the papers quickly. Her heart still racing in her chest she glances back up at Tony who holds a pen in his hand.
"So, I just sign and that's it?" Sam takes the pen from him.
"Mhm. We'll send a copy to your lawyer of choice of course." Tony nods. "But you sign now and we'll get you booked for your first match on Monday." He explains.
"Monday?" Sam's jaw drops slightly. "Are you sure I'm ready?" There's a hint of doubt in her voice.
"Very ready," Tony assures her. "I've seen your tapes. You're a natural at this, just like your dad." He praises Sam to boost her confidence.
"Huh, yeah." Sam lets out a small chuckle at the mention of her father.
Despite the small inkling of doubt present in the back of her mind, Sam signs the papers. Once they are all signed and ready to go, Tony gives her a copy of them all.
"Perfect! Welcome to AEW Sam!" Tony shakes Sam's hand firmly.
"Thank you, Tony!" Sam can't help but crack a huge grin. Her childhood dreams are finally becoming a reality.
"Of course." Tony nods. "And please, feel free to hang out for Dynamite tonight. Make some friends." He suggests.
"Alright, yeah. I will." Sam nods and Khan sends her on her way.
Sam leaves Khan's office and takes a moment to stare down at the papers in her hand. She runs her fingers over the side of the folder, still comprehending the fact that this is real life. She's an actual professional wrestler. An AEW performer.
