“Will you stop complaining and just hand me your bags?” Sam groans as she hauls her luggage into the back of her SUV.“You really expect me to be seen in this glorified mom-van?” Max scoffs but does as told anyway.
“This is an outback SUV.” Sam rolls her eyes. “Not a mom-van.” She corrects him. “I use this thing for camping and off-roading. Not hauling around a bunch of snotty kids.”
It’s been about a week since Sam and Max’s dinner with the Irving family, and AEW is going on the road again. After some careful deliberation amongst all of the Pinnacle members travels partners were finally chosen. Cash and Dax are traveling with one another, per usual. But Spears insisted that he was the one that got to travel with Wardlow. Meaning Sam is stuck in the car with Max for hours on end.
“And remind me why again, we couldn’t take my car?” Max asks for the third or fourth time today.
“Well for one, it’s got no room in it.” Sam slams the trunk shut. “And two, it guzzles gas like no one’s business.” She reminds him. “Now quit whining and get in the car.” She demands.
Max whines again but gets in the passenger seat of the car anyway. Sam climbs into the driver’s seat and switches the car on.
“God, you’re bossy.” Max rolls his eyes as Sam pulls out of the parking lot.
“You’ll get used to it.” Sam quips back. “Now, it’s what? 6 hours to Milwaulkee?”
“About that, yeah.” Max nods. “So what, three and three?” He suggests.
“Umm, absolutely not.” Sam laughs. “I’d rather die than let you drive my car.”
“What? Are you saying that I’m a bad driver?” Max teases her with a grin.
“No.” Sam shakes her head. “I’m just saying that I don’t trust you as far as I could throw you.”
“And that’s probably a good thing.” Max chuckles.
The ride out to Milwaulkee is relatively silent. Sam and Max spend so much time with one another at work that they don’t have much to talk about when they are alone.
“You know we still haven’t discussed our next move with fucking with your dad.” Max finally decides to speak up again after about an hour’s silence.
“I suppose that means you’ve got some sinister plan swimming around up there then?” Sam takes a second to glance over at Max.
“I’ve got one in the works.” Max nods.
“Well? Spit it out then.” Sam replies.
“Well, I think that you should make sure that you’re out there with Spears and Wardlow when they have their match against Santana and Ortiz. You know, stir the pot a bit.” Max explains his master plan.
“Okay.” Sam nods. “Anything else? Don’t you have a match with Sammy on Friday night? What about that one?”
“Oh, I fully intend to make sure that you’re out there with me.” Max laughs with a sinister smile. “It’ll just be the icing on the cake for when I beat his ass.”
Sam nods, but with a bit less enthusiasm, which Max notices. He knows full well that out of all of the Inner Circle members, she has the hardest time with accepting she’s got to be mean to Sammy as well.
“You’ll be okay with that, right?” Max turns to look at Sam’s response.
“Of course I will!” Sam scoffs. “Just because we’re friends doesn’t mean I can’t get the job done.” She insists, but Max can hear the hesitation in her voice.
